Inside Cheval Blanc Randheli: #2 for honeymoons

Cheval Blanc Randheli ranks #2 on our 2026 list of the best honeymoon hotels in the world. The case below explains why, the hotel itself, the standard it operates at, what it does specifically for couples on a milestone trip, and the alternatives we tested it against.

“LVMH's Maldives flagship, 45 villas across five private islands in Noonu Atoll, designed by Jean-Michel Gathy. The most refined Maldivian luxury under the Cheval Blanc standard.”

The hotel itself

Cheval Blanc is LVMH's hotel arm, the same house behind Louis Vuitton and Dior, and Randheli is its Maldives Maison, the group's second after Courchevel. The resort opened in November 2013 across five small islands in Noonu Atoll, with architecture and interiors by Jean-Michel Gathy whose discipline reads like a couture atelier moved offshore.

Forty-five villas spread across those five islands, roughly 29 of them overwater across two categories: 14 Garden Water Villas, each pairing a stilted deck with a walled tropical garden, and 15 Water Villas perched straight over the lagoon. Beach villas and the larger Owner's Villa round out the count, and a private boat fleet threads between the islands on a rhythm the guest barely registers.

Why it works for a honeymoon

The geometry of an island honeymoon is different from the geometry of a city honeymoon. You are flying somewhere with one purpose. The hotel is, for ten days, your entire universe, the restaurant, the bed, the beach, the boat. The properties that succeed in this format do not borrow energy from a city outside; they generate their own.

Cheval Blanc is LVMH's quiet bet that the most decorated luxury house in the world can also build the most decorated hotels in the world. It mostly is. The properties are few, Courchevel, St-Barth, Randheli, Paris, St-Tropez, and the standard is uniformly absurd: Bonpoint amenities for the children, Guerlain for the spa, food rooms run by chefs the hotel has stolen from three Michelin-starred kitchens. For a honeymoon Cheval Blanc rewards the couple who has done luxury before and is now tired of being told what to do with it.

The villas run generous even by Maldivian standards, with private gardens, plunge pools, and direct water or beach access depending on category. The Water Villas push out into the lagoon on double-sided sun decks; the Garden Water Villas add a walled garden most couples do not expect over the water. The Owner's Villa is its own compound, staffed with chef, butler, and gardener.

Service at Cheval Blanc is what distinguishes it. The Alchemist, Cheval Blanc's term for what other resorts call concierge, coordinates everything from the 40-minute seaplane arrival to in-villa treatments through the Guerlain-run spa. The ratio of staff to guests is among the highest in the country. The genuine LVMH craft service shows in the small details: linens replaced twice daily, butler service that anticipates rather than responds, in-villa cocktails that arrive without being asked twice.

Where it ranks against rivals

For a 2026 honeymoon at this level, the most direct comparisons on our list are Passalacqua on Lake Como (#1), One&Only Reethi Rah in the Maldives (#3), and Belmond Hotel Cipriani in Venice (#4). Randheli sits behind Passalacqua only because the Como property does intimacy at a scale Randheli's island sprawl cannot; against the other Maldives entries it wins on craft and service. Reethi Rah is the answer if you want more variety on a single island; the full list below ranks them all.

Why this hotel works for a honeymoon

Editorial · #2 on the Top 20 Honeymoon Hotels 2026 list

Cheval Blanc Randheli ranks #2 for honeymoons because the property pairs LVMH's brand-standard service with one of the most polished overwater villa products in the Maldives. The 40-minute seaplane transfer is part of the experience: the resort's islands in Noonu Atoll are reached by a dedicated floatplane. The Jean-Michel Gathy-designed villas (roughly 29 of the 45 sit over the lagoon, split between Garden Water and Water Villas) define the contemporary Maldives luxury format.

For honeymoon couples, Randheli is calibrated for the milestone overwater trip. The Owner's Villa is reserved for the property's highest-tier stays, and Le 1947, the signature restaurant, is overseen by three-Michelin-starred chef Yannick Alleno. The seasonal high runs December through April; the Christmas and New Year weeks book 12-18 months ahead. The honest trade-off remains cost and isolation: this is among the most expensive and remote resorts in the country, with no off-island distractions for couples who want them.
