Amanyara opened in 2006 at Northwest Point on the western tip of Providenciales — Turks and Caicos' main island — on a private 18-acre nature reserve fronting a protected coral reef and conservation area. The architectural premise is contemporary Aman-tropical-modernist: forty timber pavilions distributed across the property's grounds with substantial private outdoor space, integrated with the existing tropical scrub forest rather than imposed on it. The Northwest Point Marine Park (the protected reef adjacent to the property) gives Amanyara substantial conservation programming and direct access to one of the Caribbean's most pristine snorkeling reefs.
Why it works for a family
A beach-resort family trip succeeds when the hotel takes the kids off the parents' hands without making the kids feel banished. The properties that earn family-list inclusion in beach destinations have the kids' club staffed by professionals (not interns), the pool depths zoned for toddlers and adults, and the in-villa or in-suite dining that handles a 6pm kids' dinner and a 9pm parents' dinner without negotiation. The Maldives, Caribbean, and Hawaiian flagships have spent decades refining this.
Aman is unusual on a family list. Most Amans are calibrated for adults — adults-only by design at Tokyo and New York, and the wellness-and-architecture ethos is built for couples rather than children. The Amans that earn family-list inclusion are different: Amangani's mountain villa programme, Amanyara's beachside compound, Amankora's circuit through Bhutan. These are the Amans where the kids' programme exists and the architecture has space for a family. They are not the Aman default.
The 40 accommodations split between the entry-level Ocean Pavilions (with garden or partial-ocean views), Beach Pavilions (with direct beach access), the Pond Pavilions (set around the property's freshwater ponds), and the multi-bedroom Pavilions and Villas including the Aman Villas — three- to six-bedroom standalone villas with private pools and butler service. The interiors are warm contemporary tropical-modernist with substantial use of indigenous Caribbean materials.
The grounds — the property's substantial Northwest Point beachfront, the heated outdoor swimming pool, the comprehensive Aman Spa, the fitness centre, the marina, the snorkeling and dive programme (with direct access to the Northwest Point Marine Park reef), and the multi-restaurant complex — make Amanyara comprehensively-equipped. The Marine Park access is the property's defining feature; few luxury hotels anywhere have direct access to a protected coral reef of this quality.
