Why Amanyara is · #35 · for solo travel

Amanyara ranks #35 on our 2026 list of the best solo retreat hotels in the world. The case below explains why — the architecture, the bar, the suite ritual, and the alternatives we measured it against.

“Aman's Turks & Caicos property on West Caicos — 38 pavilions and 16 villas in a protected nature reserve, the most secluded Caribbean luxury.”

The hotel itself

Aman's Caribbean — forty pavilions on a private 18-acre nature reserve at Northwest Point. Direct access to a protected coral reef and the most refined Caribbean luxury hotel.

"Aman's Caribbean. 40 pavilions on private 18-acre nature reserve at Northwest Point — protected coral reef and the most refined Caribbean luxury."

Amanyara opened in 2006 at Northwest Point on the western tip of Providenciales — Turks and Caicos' main island — on a private 18-acre nature reserve fronting a protected coral reef and conservation area. The architectural premise is contemporary Aman-tropical-modernist: forty timber pavilions distributed across the property's grounds with substantial private outdoor space, integrated with the existing tropical scrub forest rather than imposed on it. The Northwest Point Marine Park (the protected reef adjacent to the property) gives Amanyara substantial conservation programming and direct access to one of the Caribbean's most pristine snorkeling reefs.

Why it works for a solo trip

Island solo trips are the under-rated format. Most island resorts are calibrated for couples or families; the few that work for solo travellers do so because the architecture creates real privacy (private decks, private beaches, single villa categories) and the staff continuity is what turns a multi-night stay into a held experience.

Aman is the luxury group most calibrated for solo travel. Founded in 1988 by Adrian Zecha and now owned by Russian-American developer Vladislav Doronin, Aman has built its identity around the deliberate solitude that other luxury groups treat as an exception. The architecture is restrained. Service is anticipatory but never theatrical. Suites are oversized — Aman has the largest standard rooms of any luxury brand at scale, which matters disproportionately when you are using one for a week alone. The brand is famous for the kind of multi-night stays where guests check in, do not check out, and lose track of what day it is. For a solo retreat the Aman case is structural: the property is built for the trip you are taking.

The 40 accommodations split between the entry-level Ocean Pavilions (with garden or partial-ocean views), Beach Pavilions (with direct beach access), the Pond Pavilions (set around the property's freshwater ponds), and the multi-bedroom Pavilions and Villas including the Aman Villas — three- to six-bedroom standalone villas with private pools and butler service. The interiors are warm contemporary tropical-modernist with substantial use of indigenous Caribbean materials.

The grounds — the property's substantial Northwest Point beachfront, the heated outdoor swimming pool, the comprehensive Aman Spa, the fitness centre, the marina, the snorkeling and dive programme (with direct access to the Northwest Point Marine Park reef), and the multi-restaurant complex — make Amanyara comprehensively-equipped. The Marine Park access is the property's defining feature; few luxury hotels anywhere have direct access to a protected coral reef of this quality.

Where it ranks against rivals

For a 2026 solo trip at this level, the most direct comparisons are Sublime Samaná in Dominican Republic (#34 on this list), Amanpuri in Phuket (#36 on this list), Six Senses Bhutan in Bhutan (#33 on this list). Amanyara earns the higher rank for one or two specific reasons covered in the verdict above — usually a combination of architectural privacy, the bar that holds for one, and the staff continuity that makes a multi-night solo stay feel held rather than transactional. The other properties are not lesser hotels — in some cases the answer for your particular trip is the runner-up.
