The Hotel

The Annapolis Waterfront Hotel sits at the foot of Compromise Street directly on the City Dock, a 150-room property that is the only hotel in the historic district with rooms opening onto the harbour. The building runs six storeys around a central atrium and was admitted to Marriott's Autograph Collection in 2015 after a multi-year renovation programme that reset every guest room, the lobby, and the harbour-facing restaurant. The property is a half-block walk from the City Dock, two blocks from the State House, three blocks from Main Street, and ten minutes by car from US Naval Academy Gate 1.

Rooms are arranged in two clear tiers. The city-view category runs to 320 square feet with the standard Autograph Collection finishes, restored wood, brass detailing, blue and cream palette, and looks out onto the historic district. The waterfront category, roughly two-thirds of the inventory, runs to 360 square feet and opens through a French balcony onto the harbour at Ego Alley with the sailboats inches from the building line. The corner Compromise Suite on the top floor combines a 600-square-foot parlour, a king bedroom, and a wraparound view that catches the State House dome, Main Street, and the harbour mouth on a single floor.

Pusser's Caribbean Grille runs the food and beverage offer: a 220-cover all-day restaurant whose terrace pushes out over the harbour and which is the most consistently good waterfront breakfast in the city. The bar is the only true on-water cocktail room in the historic district and the post-sail crowd from late April through Naval Academy graduation week is the property's reliable signature. The hotel runs a small but well-equipped fitness centre, a 4,000-square-foot ballroom that handles weddings and Naval Academy commissioning events, and a private dock that holds the property's sailboat used for harbour cruises in season.

Service is the hotel's quietly excellent feature. The front-office team is long-tenured, the bellstand and concierge know the historic district, and the property runs Naval Academy weekends with a precision that comes from sixty years of doing the same calendar. WiFi is fast enough for video calls, the connecting-room inventory is unusually broad for a heritage waterfront building, and the housekeeping team's attention to the harbour-facing balconies, glass cleaned daily, is the small detail that separates the property from any chain alternative in the region.

Best Occasion Fit

Anniversary

There is no other hotel in Annapolis that opens onto the harbour from the bed. Book the corner Compromise Suite for a milestone weekend, reserve a 7 PM table on the Pusser's terrace, and the entire trip stages itself: the State House dome at sunset, the schooners turning in Ego Alley, and a room that looks straight onto the water.

Proposal

For a proposal in the historic district, the property's private dock and the corner waterfront suite combine into the most reliable Annapolis setup. The harbour cruise sailboat can be booked privately, and the front desk handles the standard requests (rose petals, photographer, the specific table on the terrace) without flourish.

Business

For Naval Academy business and Maryland state government meetings, the Waterfront is the destination booking in the city. The 4,000-square-foot ballroom is the region's most photographed wedding and commissioning venue, and the small-meetings inventory handles 20-to-50-attendee groups one block from the State House.
