Charlotte's largest single hotel, 700 rooms on South College attached to the Convention Center, with the most reliable large-format group programme in the Carolinas.
"The volume answer for Convention Center work. Not the most stylish room product, but the city's most reliable large-format operation and the fastest check-in for groups of forty or more."
The Westin Charlotte opened in 2003 inside a purpose-built nineteen-story tower on the corner of South College and Stonewall Streets, directly across from the Charlotte Convention Center and a block from the Spectrum Center. The hotel was the city's largest single property at opening and remains so. The arrival is the architecture of a convention hotel done well: a vast double-height lobby with a curved oak reception desk, four elevator banks, the Bar 10 lobby lounge to one side, and direct internal access to the meeting and ballroom levels.
The 700 rooms and suites are arranged across the tower, with categories from the standard 360-square-foot Heavenly King through Junior Suites and a single Presidential Suite. Rooms received a comprehensive refresh in 2022 with a neutral grey-and-walnut palette, the signature Westin Heavenly Bed, marble bathrooms with the Heavenly Shower, White Tea by Westin amenities, and 55-inch televisions. Suites on floors fifteen to nineteen face either Uptown or the convention plaza; the corner Junior Suites on eighteen are the strongest rooms in the building.
Food and drink are convention-hotel competent rather than destination-level. Ember Grille handles breakfast through dinner with a steak and seafood menu and a serious bourbon list. Daily Grind, the lobby Starbucks Reserve outpost, runs from five-thirty in the morning, the busiest hotel coffee bar in the city by volume. Bar 10 handles cocktails and a casual menu through the evening. The most distinctive food signature is the Eclipse Restaurant breakfast buffet, which on convention peaks is one of the largest hotel breakfast services in the southeastern United States.
Service is the strongest part of the operation. The Westin maintains a four-to-one staff to room ratio during peak group programmes, the bell and door teams handle volume better than any property in town, and the front desk is the most efficient at large-group check-in in the Carolinas. The hotel has 120,000 square feet of meeting and event space, the largest single ballroom in Charlotte, and skybridge access to the Convention Center. The fitness centre, indoor lap pool, and 24-hour business centre are all properly equipped, and the property is regularly the Marriott Convention Hotel of the Year for the Southeast division. The Westin is the right booking when the meeting is at the Convention Center, the group is large, and reliability outranks design.
For Convention Center group programmes this is the booking that ends the conversation. Skybridge directly to the Convention Center, the largest ballroom in the Carolinas, a four-to-one staff ratio at peak, and the most efficient bell and front desk operation for groups of forty or more. The Junior Suites on eighteen give senior travellers the right working setup; Ember Grille handles a competent power breakfast; Daily Grind opens at five-thirty for the early conference start.
