"The address every Atlanta executive knew as the Ritz-Carlton Buckhead, now wearing the Luxury Collection badge after a $40 million reset. Larger rooms than anything else in Buckhead, the high tea tradition retained, and a ballroom that runs the city's wedding economy."

About The Whitley

Generations of Atlanta executives knew this building by another name. From 1984 until 2019, 3434 Peachtree Road was the Ritz-Carlton Buckhead — the address where deals got signed, debutantes were presented, and the city's most consequential weddings were held in the grand ballroom. When the Ritz-Carlton flag came down and the Luxury Collection flag went up, locals braced for the worst. What they got, after a $40 million renovation that closed the property for a year, was a hotel that respected what worked and quietly modernised what didn't. The Whitley is not trying to outrun its lineage. It is leaning into it.

The scale is what surprises first-time guests. With 507 rooms across twenty-two floors, The Whitley is larger than any other luxury property in Buckhead by a wide margin — comfortably double the room count of the St. Regis or the Mandarin Oriental nearby. That heft is the point. Standard rooms are noticeably more generous than the Buckhead average; the entry-level Deluxe King runs to roughly 480 square feet, with sitting areas, marble bathrooms, and the kind of corridor width that disappeared from new hotel construction a decade ago. Suites scale up to the 2,400-square-foot Presidential, which has hosted a recognisable share of visiting heads of state.

Brasserie, the all-day restaurant just off the lobby, took over from the Ritz-Carlton's old dining room and has settled into a confident French-American register — steak frites, plateau de fruits de mer, a respectable wine list, and the kind of room service that arrives at the door covered. The Whitley Bar inherited the lobby-bar geography that always made the Ritz-Carlton Buckhead the unofficial 6pm meeting room of corporate Atlanta. On a Friday evening it is still the most reliable place in the neighbourhood to spot a CEO closing out the week. High Tea, served in the Lobby Lounge on weekend afternoons, was kept exactly as it was — a ninety-minute ritual that draws three generations of Atlanta women on most Saturdays.

Wellness and meeting facilities are where The Whitley flexes its scale advantage. The indoor heated pool — set under a glass roof on the fourth floor — is the largest enclosed hotel pool in the Buckhead district and operates year-round. The fitness centre is open twenty-four hours and runs to actual professional kit. More importantly for the hotel's commercial mix, the ballroom and meeting floor totals more than 30,000 square feet of event space, including the city's largest hotel ballroom outside the airport corridor. Atlanta's wedding planners and corporate events teams treat The Whitley as a default option for any function above two hundred guests.

Location is the other quiet trump card. The hotel sits directly across Peachtree Road from Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza — the two highest-end shopping centres in the southeast — and walking distance to the MARTA Lenox station, which puts the airport thirty minutes away without an Uber. Buckhead's restaurant scene, including Atlas, Hal's, and Bones, is within a five-minute drive or a short walk. For business travellers covering the towers along Peachtree, the address is unbeatable. For couples celebrating an anniversary with shopping, dining, and a spa morning at the door, the geography does most of the work.

Best Occasion Fit

Anniversary

For couples who got engaged or married at the old Ritz-Carlton Buckhead — and there are many — The Whitley offers the rare combination of continuity and reinvention. Book a Deluxe King for the room scale, brunch at Brasserie, High Tea on Saturday afternoon, and an evening at the Whitley Bar. Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza are across the road for an anniversary gift run. The concierge will arrange a sedan to dinner at Bones or Atlas without a fuss.

Business

The Whitley is purpose-built for senior business travel in Atlanta. Rooms are large enough to actually work in, the executive lounge is well-run, and the ballroom and breakouts handle anything from a board offsite to a 600-person sales kickoff. The lobby bar at six on a Friday remains the room where Atlanta corporate life is conducted. Marriott Bonvoy points apply, which matters for road warriors. Park-and-fly to Hartsfield-Jackson is thirty minutes via MARTA from Lenox.

Honeymoon

For honeymoons that begin or end in Atlanta — a connecting stop before the Caribbean, or a soft landing on the way home — The Whitley offers larger rooms than anything else in Buckhead at the price, an indoor pool that runs year-round, and a walk-out shopping district that does most of the work. Request a higher-floor suite facing Lenox for the skyline view at sunset. Brasserie handles the celebratory dinner without fanfare. Less theatrical than the St. Regis, more comfortable than the Four Seasons.
