Hotels for Kings is an independent, editorially curated guide to the world's best hotels — organised by occasion. We don't sell placement. We don't accept comped stays as a condition for inclusion. We think there is a better way to choose where you stay.
Hotels for Kings was built on a simple observation: the way the internet recommends hotels is broken. The largest sites optimise for the booking, not for the guest. Search results favour whoever paid most for the slot. Reviews are gamed by both hotels and competitors. The user gets a list ranked by anything except quality.
We took a different position. Every hotel on this site has been read about by an editor, often visited, and assessed for one specific question: does this hotel fit the occasion you're booking it for? A hotel that is excellent for a business trip is very different from a hotel that is excellent for a honeymoon. A list that lumps them together is useless to both travellers.
So we organised by occasion. Eight occasions, ten hotel types, 100 cities. 8,000 hotels in total when the site is fully built. Hand-curated. Independently rated. With editorial opinions you can disagree with.
We start with the obvious tier-one rankings — Forbes Five-Star, AAA Five Diamond, Michelin Hotel Keys, Conde Nast Gold List, Travel + Leisure 500. We cross-reference. We add the boutiques and unique hotels those lists miss. We assess each property on three axes: Room & Design, Service, Location. Each is scored out of 10. We do not round up. The single highest score we have given is 9.9.
We then apply the occasion filter: which of the eight occasions does this hotel actually fit? Most hotels fit one or two well. A few fit three. None fit all eight, and we don't pretend they do.
We do not accept payment for inclusion or ranking. Hotels can submit themselves through our submission form, but submission is not placement. We do not write sponsored content. When we accept hosted stays, the disclosure is on the page; the hosting does not influence the score.
Affiliate booking links are how we make money. When you click through to book, we receive a commission from the booking platform — at no cost to you. The link is sponsored; the editorial opinion is not.
