The single best gift for the right person is one or two nights at a hotel they would not book themselves. Most luxury hotels sell gift-night certificates directly through their websites. The Aman group, the Four Seasons, the Ritz-Carlton, and Auberge Resorts all have well-developed programmes. The Leading Hotels of the World offers a multi-property card.

For people whose taste you don't fully share: gift cards. Booking.com, Marriott Bonvoy, Hilton Honors, and World of Hyatt all sell denominated cards. We prefer the property-direct cards (Four Seasons, Auberge) because they tilt the recipient toward better hotels.
Bed linens. Frette, Sferra, Matouk. The hotels you remember have all-cotton percale at 400-thread-count. Worth giving.
Toiletries. The Aman amenity kits — actually buyable from the brand directly. Le Labo, Diptyque, and Byredo for the hotel-room scent.
Robes. Frette spa robes are the de facto luxury hotel robe. Comparable quality at half the price: a Pratesi waffle robe.
