FAQ · Hotels for Kings

Frequently asked.

How we choose hotels, how we make money, what we will and won't do, how to reach an editor.

How does Hotels for Kings choose the hotels it lists?

We start with industry rankings (Forbes Five-Star, AAA Five Diamond, Michelin Hotel Keys, Conde Nast Gold List), cross-reference, and add the boutiques those lists miss. Every hotel is scored on three axes — Room & Design, Service, Location — out of 10. We then assess fit against the eight occasions on the site. Full method: /methodology.

Are the hotel reviews independent?

Yes. We do not sell editorial placement. Hotels can submit themselves through our submission form, but submission does not influence ranking. Some links are affiliate (we earn commission when you book), but commission rates are equivalent across platforms — there is no incentive to rank one hotel above another.

Why is the directory organized by occasion instead of by city?

Because the most useful filter when choosing a hotel is why you're going. A hotel that is excellent for a business trip is rarely excellent for a honeymoon. Most hotel directories sort by city, price, or star rating — none of which match how people actually book.

Do you accept comped stays in exchange for reviews?

We accept hosted stays for high-end property visits. The hosting is disclosed on the relevant hotel page. The hosting does not influence the score; if anything, our scores for hosted stays trend slightly lower than for paid stays, because expectations are higher.

How often is the site updated?

Hotel pages are reviewed every six months for accuracy on prices, room types, and policies. New hotels are added monthly. Deals are updated weekly. The newsletter goes out every Sunday morning.

Can I submit my hotel for review?

Yes. Use the form at /submit-hotel. Submission is free; placement is editorial. We typically respond within 4–8 weeks.

Do you offer travel-agent services?

No. We are an editorial publisher, not a booking platform. We link to booking platforms (Booking.com, the hotel-direct site, others) when relevant, and earn affiliate commission on bookings. For complex trips, we recommend the traveller engages a Virtuoso or American Express FHR-affiliated agent.

Are the photos real?

We use real photos sourced from the hotels and from Unsplash for editorial illustration. Photographs of specific rooms reflect the room category but may not be the exact unit you are assigned. Where a hotel has provided press photography, we use it.

How can I contact the editorial team?

Email hello@hotelsforkings.com or use the contact form. We respond within 48 hours to most enquiries.

How do I unsubscribe from the newsletter?

Every issue contains an unsubscribe link in the footer. One click; effective immediately.
