Business Family Holiday Anniversary Five-Star

"The largest hotel in New Zealand and the country's only hotel with the spa, conference, and large-scale-banqueting infrastructure to handle thousand-guest events. The Pinnacle Tower addition gave it a proper grand-hotel sense of scale."

The Hotel

The Cordis Auckland operates from the building that has anchored the Symonds Street corner of central Auckland since the original Sheraton Auckland opened on the site in 1980. The building was refurbished as the Langham Auckland on 31 October 2005 (the brand's first New Zealand property) and rebranded again on 21 March 2018 as Cordis Auckland — the Langham group's lifestyle five-star tier — at which point an extensive interior redesign and the announcement of the Pinnacle Tower addition were made public. The Pinnacle Tower — a contemporary 17-floor 244-room addition immediately adjacent to the original 1980 building — was completed and opened in March 2022, taking the property to 642 rooms total and confirming Cordis as New Zealand's largest hotel by room count.

The 642 rooms divide between the original 398-room Cordis Tower (1980 building, refurbished 2018) and the 244-room Pinnacle Tower (2022 addition). Standard categories begin at 28 square metres in the original tower and at 32 square metres in Pinnacle — Pinnacle Tower categories are the booking premium for travellers wanting the contemporary build, with floor-to-ceiling windows facing south toward Mount Eden and east toward the harbour. The Pinnacle Suite at 110 square metres is the milestone unit, with a private wraparound balcony. Bathrooms are travertine; bath products are Chuan Spa-branded.

Eight is the all-day buffet restaurant — running an eight-cuisine programme (Asian, Middle Eastern, Italian, French, Indian, New Zealand-Pacific, dessert, raw bar) across 1,200 covers per service, the largest hotel restaurant operation in Australasia. Our Land is Alive is the Pinnacle Tower's contemporary Aotearoa-Pacific restaurant. The lobby Bar is the cocktail-and-aperitivo programme. The Chuan Spa — Langham's signature traditional Chinese-medicine treatment programme — runs the largest hotel spa in New Zealand at 1,200 square metres across two floors. The 25-metre heated rooftop pool sits between the original tower and the Pinnacle Tower with views toward Mount Eden. The conference centre handles up to 1,400 guests across 17 meeting rooms — the largest hotel-conference operation in the country.

The Symonds Street position is the booking trade-off — uphill from the central business district, four minutes by car or eight minutes on foot down to Britomart, six minutes to Sky Tower and Federal Street, ten minutes to the Wynyard Quarter and Park Hyatt. The address is the right answer for business travellers attending the SkyCity Convention Centre (a five-minute walk west) and for travellers wanting the grand-hotel-with-conference-infrastructure register. Less central than Britomart, less waterfront than Park Hyatt or Sofitel; the only Auckland five-star with the spa-and-conference scale.

Best Occasion Fit

Business

For business travellers needing the largest hotel-and-conference programme in New Zealand — particularly for travellers in town for SkyCity Convention Centre events or for group travellers requiring the 1,400-guest banqueting infrastructure — Cordis is the unambiguous Auckland answer. Pinnacle Tower Junior Suites are the working category.

Family Holiday

For multi-generational families wanting the indoor-and-outdoor pool, spa, and large-scale buffet operation, Cordis is the right answer. The Eight buffet handles family dining across all ages and dietary requirements; connecting rooms are available across multiple floors.

Anniversary

A milestone-anniversary booking that prioritises the Chuan Spa programme over the harbour-view register of Park Hyatt and Sofitel. Pinnacle Suite is the headline category; the spa programme through the morning is the booking image.
