"Opened 1998 on the western bank of the Chao Phraya, opposite the Mandarin Oriental, with a simple architectural rule that has aged extraordinarily well: every one of the 370 rooms faces the river. Service is calibrated to the Peninsula brand standard, which in Bangkok means precise, attentive, and never theatrical."

About The Peninsula Bangkok

The Peninsula Bangkok opened in October 1998 on the western bank of the Chao Phraya — a deliberate decision to set the property opposite the established luxury cluster on the eastern bank, in a quieter neighbourhood, with an unobstructed sightline back to old Bangkok. The 37-storey W-shaped tower was designed by Wong Kuen Lung specifically to ensure that every one of the 370 rooms faces the river, with no room more than three windows wide and every room having a writing desk in front of those windows. Twenty-eight years later, that single architectural rule is still the property's strongest value proposition.

The room categories run from the Deluxe River category — 47 square metres, two windows wide, on a low to mid-floor — up to the 320-square-metre Peninsula Suite on the 36th floor with a wraparound river view and a separate two-room study. Every room comes with the brand's signature Peninsula in-room technology: a tablet that controls lighting, temperature, the curtains, and the city-renowned bath fill (a button that runs an exact-temperature 38°C bath in 90 seconds while the guest changes). The bathroom is, in Peninsula tradition, oversized: a separate marble shower, a 1.8-metre soaking tub, and the city's deepest hotel-room walk-in closet.

Mei Jiang, the Cantonese restaurant on the second floor, holds a Michelin star and is the most respected Cantonese kitchen in central Bangkok — a deliberately precise menu run by a team trained at the Peninsula Hong Kong. River Café & Terrace is the casual all-day option, set on a pier directly over the Chao Phraya. The Peninsula Lounge, in the lobby, runs the city's most-considered afternoon tea programme — a 28-piece set with a sequence of jasmine tea, river-prawn dumplings, and Thai pandan macarons, served daily from 14:00. The Pen Court, on the rooftop, is the sunset cocktail option.

The Peninsula Spa, at 1,000 square metres on the third floor, runs a Thai-Western hybrid programme. The 30-metre three-tiered river pool — a Peninsula architectural signature — is the city's most-photographed hotel pool. The Peninsula's distinguishing feature, in 2026, is the consistency: the room arrival, the in-room Peninsula tablet, the bath fill button, the breakfast service, and the 24-hour in-room dining all run at the precise Peninsula brand standard, calibrated to a Bangkok appetite. For business stays where the meeting is across the river in Sathorn, milestone anniversaries that want considered service over heritage theatre, and Asia-experienced repeat guests, this is the safest five-star booking in the city.

Best Occasion Fit

Business

Sathorn business district is six minutes by Peninsula's complimentary 1934 Rolls-Royce shuttle (or by the resort's own teak river boat). The Premier River category doubles as a working room with a desk facing the river. The Peninsula Suite has an eight-seat private boardroom. Concierge handles same-day Royal Thai Police paperwork for any longer-than-30-day visa scenario.

Anniversary

The Peninsula Suite — 320 square metres on the 36th floor — is the celebration room. Brief the in-suite team 48 hours ahead and they will arrange a Mei Jiang tasting menu in-suite, a private teak-boat sunset cruise from the resort's pier, and a closing Pen Court cocktail with a violin trio.

Honeymoon

The Deluxe River category is the entry-level honeymoon booking; the Premier River, for the larger bath, is the upgrade most couples make. Pair with three nights at the brand's Peninsula Tokyo or four nights at a Phuket pool villa for a brand-loyal Asia honeymoon. The 30-metre three-tiered river pool is the property's most-photographed couple's setting.
