A 185-suite Marriott all-suite hotel built in 2017 across nine floors on Capitol Boulevard, four blocks from the State Capitol, full kitchens in every suite, with a rooftop terrace and Broad Street Bistro off the lobby.
"The downtown Boise long-stay answer. Full kitchens, a real rooftop, free breakfast that does not insult the guest, and the Greenbelt three blocks east. Better than the brand's national average by a clear step."
The Residence Inn by Marriott Boise Downtown/City Center opened in 2017 as a purpose-built nine-storey hotel on the east side of Capitol Boulevard between Front and Myrtle, the same block as the Inn at 500 Capitol and three blocks south of the Grove. The building reads as a contemporary urban Residence Inn rather than the brand's suburban default: a quietly handsome charcoal-clad tower with floor-to-ceiling glass on the rooftop level and a small ground-floor restaurant on Capitol Boulevard. The property was developed and is operated by a regional partner that runs three other Marriott properties in the Mountain West, and the operating spec runs notably above the brand's national average.
The 185 suites are all-suite, as the brand requires, with studios at 380 square feet, one-bedrooms at 550 to 600, and a handful of two-bedrooms at 880 square feet. Every suite carries a full kitchen with a four-burner cooktop, an under-counter dishwasher, a full refrigerator, a microwave, and a serious set of pots, pans, and dishware. The bedding is the Marriott standard, the workspace is unusually well-proportioned for the brand (a large desk, a second monitor on request, ergonomic chair), and the bathrooms run a deep tub with a separate stand-up shower in one-bedrooms and above. The Capitol-facing upper-floor units carry the property's strongest views.
Two amenities differentiate the property from the brand's national stock. Broad Street Bistro is the lobby restaurant, a small American room that operates breakfast (free for guests), lunch, and dinner with a competent regional wine list and a small but properly-stocked bar; the bar is open through midnight. The rooftop terrace on the ninth floor is the more meaningful amenity: a generous wooden deck with cabana seating, a small bar that runs Thursday through Saturday in the warm months, and a clear line of sight to the State Capitol, the foothills, and the Boise River. The rooftop is by guest access only and is the property's quietly best evening room.
Standard amenities are well-handled. The indoor pool is generous for the brand and runs warm year-round, the fitness centre is small but properly equipped, the daily complimentary hot breakfast is the brand's full spread including made-to-order eggs Tuesday and Thursday, and the evening Mix is the brand's standard light-bites-and-drinks reception Monday through Wednesday. Self-parking in the attached garage runs $25 a night; valet is not offered. The Greenbelt access point at Capitol Boulevard is three blocks east, a meaningful amenity for a long stay that includes a running schedule. The property is the right answer when the trip is four nights or more and a full kitchen reads as the difference between a good week and a frustrating one.
For a family weekend or week in Boise, the Residence Inn is the practical booking. Two-bedroom suites with full kitchens absorb a four-person family without making anyone share a bathroom; the free hot breakfast removes the morning logistics problem; the indoor pool is open year-round; and the Capitol Boulevard location runs to the Boise Zoo, the Idaho State Museum, the Greenbelt, and Idaho Central Arena in a walking radius of fifteen minutes.
For business travel into Boise that runs four nights or longer (a legislative session, a court matter, a relocation), the Residence Inn is the cleanest answer. A full kitchen converts a hotel into a small apartment; the work desk is the brand's most well-proportioned; the rooftop is the property's after-work room; and the walk to the Capitol, the federal courthouse, and Boise Centre is between three and seven blocks.
For a solo week in Boise that wants a quiet workspace and a long-run Greenbelt routine, the Residence Inn is the friendliest mid-priced booking. The studio kings carry the full kitchen and the same work desk as the larger suites; the rooftop absorbs an evening; the morning Greenbelt run from the Capitol Boulevard access point is the natural route. Pair with the Inn at 500 Capitol's Hemlock for the marquee dinner two blocks south.
