Five Seas Hotel Cannes

Forty-five rooms behind a discreet limestone facade between the Palais des Festivals and Rue d'Antibes, with a rooftop hammam and pool, a Cinq Mondes spa programme, and the most quietly composed contemporary five-star in central Cannes.

Honeymoon Anniversary Wellness Retreat Design

"The Cannes five-star that argues by subtraction: forty-five rooms instead of three hundred, a rooftop pool instead of a beach club, and a limestone facade two blocks off the Croisette that the casual tourist walks past. The room key in your pocket is the only sign you are staying at a Design Hotels member."

The Hotel

Five Seas opened in 2012 inside a converted nineteenth-century townhouse on Rue Notre Dame, the narrow street that runs between the Palais des Festivals and the Rue d'Antibes shopping strip. The exterior is intentionally quiet, a Haussmannian limestone front, no signage at street level, an arched doorway in iron and glass. The interior, designed by Marie-Christine Mecoen, runs in a deliberately understated palette of pale oak, warm grey textiles, brass and bronze hardware, and a recurring marine motif drawn from the five seas after which the hotel is named. The hotel is a Design Hotels member and a Member of Marriott Bonvoy, which gives it the rare combination of independent design language and global loyalty access.

The 45 rooms and suites stretch across six floors. Classic rooms start at 22 square metres and the Junior Suites at 35, with the Penthouse Suite on the top floor reaching 80 square metres with a private terrace onto the rooftop pool. Bathrooms are clad in calacatta marble with deep freestanding tubs in upper categories. The room product feels closer to a quiet Parisian Left Bank hotel than to the gilded Croisette palaces, which is the operational point. Every category was lightly refreshed in 2023, with new bedding from Treca and the same Cinq Mondes amenity range used in the spa.

The food offering is a small ground-floor restaurant called Sea Sens, which holds eighteen tables, and a rooftop bar called La Terrasse with twelve tables and a view across the rooftops toward the Old Port. Sea Sens runs a southern French menu with a strong Asian inflection through the executive chef, and the wine list is short and well chosen rather than encyclopedic. The rooftop bar opens from May through October and is the property's signature room: lunchgoers eat poke bowls and grilled fish next to the pool, dinner converts to cocktails after sunset, and the kitchen runs late through the Festival and the Cannes Lions weeks.

The rooftop holds the 12-metre pool, a heated section, the hammam, and four treatment rooms managed by Cinq Mondes. The spa runs a full ritual programme rather than discrete menu items, which suits the room scale: most guests use the spa over multiple sessions across a stay rather than booking one ninety-minute treatment. Service throughout is warm and informal in the small-hotel style, with a staff-to-room ratio better than most central Cannes five-stars and a concierge desk that genuinely runs the property's connections to the Croisette beach clubs and the Festival passes during the May peak.

Best Occasion Fit

Honeymoon

For a Cannes honeymoon at the contemporary end of the village stock, Five Seas is the clear booking. The 45-room scale guarantees a quiet property even at Festival peak; the Penthouse Suite gives the couple a private rooftop terrace with full pool access; the spa rituals are properly built for two; and the position two blocks off the Croisette removes the worst of the high-season noise without sacrificing the walk to dinner. The Old Town's Le Suquet sunset view is six minutes on foot.

Anniversary

An anniversary at Five Seas is the right answer for a couple who want a five-star Cannes stay without the palace ceremony. Book a Junior Suite with a small balcony for a long weekend and the Penthouse for a milestone year. Private dining can be arranged on the rooftop terrace outside service hours, with Sea Sens running a five-course tasting menu and the view of the rooftops at sunset that is the most photographed dinner table in central Cannes.

Wellness Retreat

The rooftop spa is genuinely the operational heart of the building rather than an amenity bolted on. The Cinq Mondes ritual programme runs three to six sessions per stay rather than single treatments, the hammam is the only proper steam suite in central Cannes at this price point, and the pool gets morning lap use before the daytime crowd. Pair the spa programme with a daily early walk along the Croisette and a second-day excursion to Iles de Lerins and the property delivers a credible four-day wellness stay at altitude zero.
