Mondrian Cannes opened in 2024 inside the former Grand Hotel of Cannes, a 1950s rebuild of an earlier nineteenth-century property at 45 Boulevard de la Croisette. The location is the central Croisette, six minutes east of the Palais des Festivals, four minutes west of the Carlton, with a deep garden running the full depth of the block that gives the hotel a quieter rear elevation onto Rue d'Antibes. The renovation was led by designers Patricia Urquiola and the Accor design studio together, with the building's mid-century volumes kept intact and the interiors given an assertively contemporary treatment in pale terrazzo, brushed steel, ribbed glass, and a recurring blue-and-coral palette referencing the Cannes flag.
The 75 rooms and suites are arranged across seven floors. The entry rooms start at 30 square metres with either a Croisette or a garden view, and the upper category suites stretch to 130 square metres in the Penthouse Suite, which carries a private rooftop terrace with full sea sightline. Bathrooms are clad in pale terrazzo with deep tubs in all categories from Junior Suite up. The room product is the most contemporary on the Croisette by some distance, and the deliberate reduction from the former Grand Hotel's 187 rooms to the current 75 is the operational signature: this is a Mondrian, not a Croisette palace, and the scale is the point.
The food and beverage offering is built around three rooms. The ground-floor restaurant, Cara, is a Mediterranean grill under chef Cyril Lignac's consulting brief, with thirty-two tables that book out reliably through the Festival and Lions weeks. The garden bar runs lunch and aperitif service from April through October with a small grill menu and a Riviera cocktail list. The signature room is the rooftop bar, opened in May 2024, which has rapidly become the central party room of the Cannes Lions Festival in June; hotel guests have priority access, which is the operational benefit during the two peak weeks. The 24-hour in-room dining menu is short and well executed.
The wellness floor on the lower level holds a 16-metre indoor pool, a hammam, a Finnish sauna, and four treatment rooms managed by the Mondrian spa team with a Susanne Kaufmann product range. The pool is the only proper indoor pool on the Croisette at this scale, which is a meaningful winter and shoulder-season advantage. Service across the property is younger and less formal than the Carlton or Majestic, which is consistent with the Mondrian brand position and is the right reading for a guest in their thirties or early forties on a Cannes stay. For an anniversary on the Croisette without the palace ceremony, Mondrian is the most current booking. The rooftop bar is the signature room for a celebration dinner table, the Penthouse Suite holds the only private rooftop terrace at this address, and the garden bar handles a quieter pre-dinner aperitif than the front-of-house Carlton or Majestic terraces. The hotel runs a small in-room celebration menu (cake, flowers, champagne) handled by the concierge with twenty-four hours notice.
For a Cannes bachelor or bachelorette weekend, Mondrian is the operational answer for a group of six to ten who want the central Croisette address without booking into a Carlton-style formal palace. The rooftop bar becomes the group's late-evening room without the Saturday-night queue (hotel guests skip the cover), the Junior Suites hold pre-dinner gatherings for eight cleanly, and Cara runs a Mediterranean grill menu suited to a group dinner. The position puts you four minutes from the central Croisette beach clubs.
For Cannes Lions Festival or Festival week, Mondrian is the booking for the brand and creative agency contingent that wants the central Croisette address but does not want the corporate-formal house style of the larger five-stars. The rooftop bar handles client entertainment cleanly, the meeting rooms run to 80 covers for a private dinner, and the 75-room scale means the front desk knows the corporate accounts by day two.
