Family Holiday Business City Center

"The Hampton next door to the Embassy. Same river, same five-minute walk to Falls Park, half the price, and a free hot breakfast that runs better than it has any right to. For a family weekend that prefers value to amenity and a business stay that needs the river view without the corporate rate, this is the upstate's best Hampton."

The Hotel

Hampton Inn & Suites Greenville Downtown RiverPlace opened as part of the RiverPlace redevelopment at the western end of the Reedy River bend, immediately adjacent to the Peace Center, the Wyche Pavilion, and the Liberty Bridge. The property occupies the river-side block at 171 RiverPlace, two doors down from the Embassy Suites (rank four) and looking onto the same stretch of public space; the price differential between the two hotels is the point of the booking, and the Hampton runs at roughly half the Embassy's published rate at almost any night of the year. The hotel is, by some distance, the upstate's best Hampton Inn.

The 115 rooms and suites occupy a six story slab on the river bank. Standard rooms are roughly 25 square metres with a king or two queen layout, a small refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and the brand's recently refreshed palette in cream, oat, and warm walnut. River-facing rooms add a small balcony that looks directly onto the Wyche Pavilion's brick shell and across to the Peace Center; the upper floor king suites stretch to roughly 38 square metres with a separate seating area, and the corner two-room studio suites are the property's headline product, a glass enclosed circular footprint that pushes onto the river with a 180 degree view. Book a corner suite on the fifth or sixth floor when available.

Food and beverage is the brand's signature operation: a complimentary hot breakfast with cooked-to-order eggs, made-to-order waffles, and a stronger pastry selection than the Hampton brand standard, served in a river-facing dining room that genuinely earns its place. There is no on-site restaurant beyond breakfast, but the Peace Center plaza, the Wyche Pavilion's restaurant outpost, and the entire South Main strip are five minutes on foot. The fitness centre is small but properly equipped; the indoor pool is on the second floor with a river view. The Reedy River and the Swamp Rabbit Trail run directly past the front door.

Service is the brand's strongest point; the front desk team is consistent year to year and the housekeeping team is reliably above brand standard. The property runs at a high occupancy and rooms on the elevator side can read slightly noisy at peak hours; insist on a river-facing room at booking. Hampton Inn Greenville is the editorial first pick for any traveller who wants the river view, the downtown walk, and the included breakfast without the price premium of the Embassy or the Bohemian.

Best Occasion Fit

Family Holiday

For a value-conscious family weekend in downtown Greenville, Hampton Inn at RiverPlace is the obvious booking. Two queens river-side handles parents and two children, the included breakfast runs the morning without effort, and the Peace Center plaza and Falls Park playground are minutes from the door. Book a corner two-room suite for a more comfortable layout with school age children.

Business

For a one to two night business stay that does not need a conference floor or a corporate rate, the Hampton handles the brief without complaint. The desk in the river-facing king is workable, the breakfast is free, the Wyche and Peace plazas are the city's two best informal client meeting spots, and the price point makes the stay easier to defend on the expense report than the larger corporate hotels in town.
