Sheraton Lake Como Hotel

The lake's largest conference-grade four-star — 137 rooms between Como city and Cernobbio, indoor and outdoor pools, the right answer for business-driven Lake Como visits and for travellers who want functional comfort over historic character.

Business Family Holiday Anniversary Five-Star

"The unromantic Como answer — and the right one for the brief that includes a conference programme, a multigenerational family, or a budget that can't absorb Tremezzo lakefront tariffs. Sheraton service standards, Como location, an indoor pool that the lake's grand hotels famously don't have, and a 1.5km walk to the lakefront promenade."

The Hotel

The Sheraton Lake Como Hotel sits at Via per Cernobbio 41a, on the corridor that runs from the western edge of Como city centre out toward Cernobbio. The property opened in the late 1980s as a purpose-built business hotel, was converted to the Sheraton brand in the early 2000s, and has been operated under Marriott's Bonvoy programme since the Marriott-Starwood merger of 2016. The current building is a low-rise contemporary structure set in landscaped grounds — not lakefront, but a 1.5km walk from Como's Piazza Cavour and the Bürkliplatz-style lakefront promenade. The hotel is the only branded Marriott Bonvoy property on Lake Como itself; the closest comparable address is the JW Marriott in Milan.

The 137 rooms are organised across the main building's six floors in standard Sheraton categories — Classic, Deluxe, Executive, Junior Suite, Suite — sized between 24 and 70 square metres. The room product was refreshed in stages through the late 2010s and reflects current Sheraton standards: blackout curtains, sound-proofed windows, parquet floors in the upper categories, modern bathrooms with separate tub and shower in the suites, and Smart TV with full streaming integration. Garden-view rooms look onto the landscaped grounds; the better categories on the upper floors have partial views toward Lake Como and the surrounding hills. There are no direct lake views from any room — the property is set back roughly a kilometre from the shore, on the road corridor.

The hotel's substantive proposition over the lake's grand villa-hotels is the indoor pool: a 25-metre heated indoor lap pool that operates year-round, plus an outdoor pool open seasonally May through September. Villa d'Este and Tremezzo have their floating outdoor pools but no indoor swimming option; for a winter or shoulder-season Como visit, this is the only serious lake-area hotel that solves the problem. The fitness centre is similarly comprehensive — a full Technogym programme, separate Pilates and yoga studio, and the standard Sheraton Fitness brand alignment. The wellness facility runs to a sauna and Turkish bath; there is no full spa, and treatments are limited to a small in-room massage programme.

Dining is in the Kincho Restaurant — a Lombard-Italian kitchen with a buffet breakfast and an à la carte dinner programme — and the Gourmet Restaurant for finer dining. The Lobby Bar handles aperitivo and a working business-meeting register through the evening. The conference floor — five meeting rooms plus a 600-capacity ballroom — is the largest on Lake Como and the reason the hotel exists in its current scale; corporate retreats from Milan, the Como silk industry, and the lakeside private-banking community are the steady demand base. For travellers, the right framing of the hotel is honest: this is a four-star business property in greater Como, not a five-star villa experience, and the rates reflect that. For a budget-conscious lake visit that prioritises functional comfort, an indoor pool, and Marriott Bonvoy points accumulation over historic character, it is the most consistent answer on the lake.

Best Occasion Fit

Business

The Sheraton's substantive niche — and the only Lake Como hotel built around a serious conference brief. Five meeting rooms, a 600-capacity ballroom, full audiovisual, a 137-room block that can absorb a single corporate take-over, and the Marriott Bonvoy commercial framework that most multinationals already use. For Como silk-industry conferences, Italian private-banking offsites, and the kind of corporate retreat that needs a lake setting without lakefront-villa rates, this is the default answer.

Family Holiday

For families who want Lake Como without a five-figure week's bill, the Sheraton is the most structurally suitable address on the lake. Connecting rooms, family-suite categories, an indoor pool that handles weather contingencies, an outdoor pool with daytime supervision in season, and a road-side address that's easier to load and unload than the cliff-clinging villa-hotels. Como city centre, the Brunate funicular, and the Como-Brunate-Faro hiking circuit are short walks or short drives.

Anniversary

For an unfussed anniversary that prioritises Como over a specific hotel — a return to the city you eloped to, a quiet weekend with a couple of dinners in town and an aperitivo on the Piazza Cavour — the Sheraton is the right calibration. A Junior Suite with garden view, Bonvoy points spent on the upgrade, and the hotel's relative anonymity as the substantive proposition.
