The Hotel

BLESS Hotel Madrid opened in 2019 as the flagship of Palladium Hotel Group's BLESS Collection — the Spanish operator's attempt to create a luxury brand from scratch that could compete with the international five-star houses on their own terms. The hotel occupies a historic Salamanca building at Calle de Velázquez 62, in the heart of the Milla de Oro — Madrid's Golden Mile — alongside the global headquarters of every European luxury house with a Spanish presence. The building was reinterpreted top to bottom by Lázaro Rosa-Violán, the Catalan interior designer whose work elsewhere — Cotton House Barcelona, Soho House Madrid — has come to define the maximalist-but-confident Spanish luxury aesthetic of the past decade.

There are 111 rooms and suites, including a number of garden-facing units overlooking the inner courtyard and the standout Cigar Suite (a tobacco-themed signature suite that is rarely seen on Instagram because most of the people who book it are not on Instagram). The room product is the most maximally-decorated in the Madrid five-star market — patterned wallpapers, marble inlays, brass fittings, velvet headboards — and the rooms are larger than the Salamanca average because the building's residential origin produced unusually generous floorplates. The bathrooms are particularly good; the Cigar Suite's outdoor jacuzzi is one of the more theatrical amenities in central Madrid.

The dining and amenity programme is the depth that has made BLESS work as a destination rather than just a hotel. There are two principal restaurants — Etxeko Madrid (the Madrid outpost of three-Michelin-star Basque chef Martín Berasategui), and a more relaxed all-day option — plus three bars, including the Picos Pardos Sky Lounge on the rooftop. The rooftop pool itself is the showpiece, with cabanas and a bar programme that runs from late morning until midnight in summer. Below the building, a wellness villa houses a hammam, sauna, jacuzzi, and indoor pool; below that, a private bowling alley that the hotel makes a point of not advertising and that is, for groups, the best small-event space in Madrid.

Editorially, BLESS sits in the Salamanca design-led tier alongside the Madrid EDITION (more design-disciplined) and Hotel Único (more restrained boutique). What BLESS does better than either is theatre — the lobby, the rooftop, the bar programmes, and the basement amenities all deliver a stay that feels like a continuous performance rather than a sequence of well-executed rooms. For groups travelling for an event, for design-conscious couples in the Salamanca catchment, and for anyone who finds the Mandarin Oriental Ritz too institutional, BLESS is the most committed answer.

Best Occasion Fit

Bachelor / Bachelorette

For a Madrid bachelor or bachelorette weekend, BLESS is the strongest combination of room product, central party access, and on-property programme. The basement bowling alley books as a private group venue, the rooftop pool can be reserved for cabana-led celebrations, and Picos Pardos Sky Lounge runs a cocktail programme that anchors the evening before the group leaves for Salamanca's nightlife circuit. Connecting suites are available — six-to-eight is the comfortable group size.

Anniversary

For couples who would rather their anniversary feel like an experience than a ceremony, BLESS works better than the more institutional five-stars. Book the Cigar Suite, dinner at Etxeko Madrid (the Berasategui kitchen is one of Madrid's three or four genuine destination meals), and the spa villa for an afternoon. The hotel will handle the small touches without making the celebration feel performative — which is the trick.

Solo Retreat

For the solo Madrid weekend that wants design, dining, and a busy property without a structured programme, BLESS is well-suited. The wellness villa, the rooftop, and Etxeko Madrid will easily fill three days; Salamanca's gallery and shopping district is a fifteen-minute walk; and the rooms are large enough to actually work or read in. Ask for a garden-facing room — the courtyard side is meaningfully quieter than Velázquez.
