LVMH's Maldives. Forty-five villas spread across five private islands, designed by Jean-Michel Gathy with the discipline of a Hermès atelier.
"45 villas across five private islands — the LVMH Maldives, with the discipline of a couture atelier. The most polished service in the country."
Cheval Blanc is LVMH's hotel arm — the same company that runs Louis Vuitton, Dior, and Hermès leather goods — and Cheval Blanc Randheli is its Maldives Maison. The resort opened in November 2013 on a private island in Noonu Atoll, with architecture by Jean-Michel Gathy and interiors by Jean-Michel Gathy and his collaborators that show a relentless commitment to detail. Forty-five villas — eight beach, ten water, and a handful of larger Owner's Villas — are spread across five private islands within the Randheli atoll, connected by a private boat fleet that runs on a schedule almost imperceptible to the guest.
The villas are the largest in their categories in the Maldives — even the Beach Villas start at 250 square metres, with private gardens, plunge pools, and direct beach access. The Water Villas push out into the lagoon with double-sided sun decks. The four-bedroom Owner's Villa is its own private compound on its own island, with chef, butler, gardener, and a 65-metre pool.
Service at Cheval Blanc is what distinguishes it. The Alchemist — Cheval Blanc's term for what other resorts call concierge — coordinates everything from arrival via Cheval Blanc's private seaplane to in-villa massages with practitioners flown from the Guerlain Spa in Paris. The ratio of staff to guests is among the highest in the country. The genuine LVMH craft service shows in the small details: linens replaced twice daily, butler service that anticipates rather than responds, in-villa cocktails that arrive without being asked twice.
The Guerlain Spa is the only one in the Indian Ocean, with seven treatment villas over water. The dining is across four restaurants — Le 1947 (the Yannick Alléno-trained Mediterranean restaurant), The Deelani (Asian), the over-water Diptyque-scented Rouge Champagne bar, and a Japanese teppanyaki on its own private island. Diving is taught by PADI master instructors; sailing is on the resort's private fleet of catamarans; the kids' club is, like everything else here, quietly impressive. This is the Maldives at its most polished and most LVMH — the resort that other Maldives resorts study and aspire to.
The Maldives honeymoon for couples who want the polish of LVMH service and the privacy of villas with their own beaches or lagoon access. Book a Water Villa with private deck and pool. Ask the Alchemist to arrange a private dinner on a sandbank, a vow renewal at sunset, or a Guerlain couples' treatment in the overwater spa villas. The honeymoon at Cheval Blanc is delivered with the same craftsmanship LVMH puts into a Birkin.
For milestone anniversaries — twenty-fifth, fortieth — the Owner's Villa or the four-bedroom Beach Estate are the right scale. Cheval Blanc handles vow renewals, private chef dinners, helicopter or seaplane proposals over the lagoon, and quiet anniversary surprises with the discretion of a maison that has been doing this for haute couture clients for decades.
The proposal Maldives resort. Book a Water Villa with the largest sun deck, ask the Alchemist to arrange a private sunset cruise on a Cheval Blanc dhoni, and propose with the LVMH-arranged orchestration that comes with this address. If you propose at Cheval Blanc and she says no, the resort will not cancel your dinner reservation, but it should.
