Le Touessrok originally opened in 1973 as the flagship resort of the Mauritius-based Sun Resorts group on a private peninsula at Trou d'Eau Douce on the eastern coast. The Shangri-La group acquired the property and the operating contract in March 2015 — a deal that included rights to the offshore Île aux Cerfs (the 100-hectare island offshore that contains the Bernhard Langer-designed 18-hole championship golf course) and the smaller Îlot Mangénie (the 4-hectare adjacent island that the property has converted to an Adults-Only beach club). The comprehensive $25 million renovation between April and October 2015 reopened the property as Shangri-La Le Touessrok on 1 October 2015 with the current room inventory and Shangri-La service register intact.

The 200 rooms — including 11 named Beach Suites and 1 Frangipani Villa — divide between the principal three accommodation wings (the Frangipani, Hibiscus, and Coral wings) plus the Frangipani Villa as the standalone milestone unit at 380 sqm with three bedrooms and a private 12-metre pool. Standard categories at 50 sqm are larger than the Mauritius five-star average. Bathrooms are travertine; bath products are Acca Kappa.

The dining programme runs five restaurants. The Republik Beach Club & Grill is the principal Mediterranean register; Bernardo Trattoria is the Italian (the most-decorated of the on-property kitchens); Le Bazar is the multi-cuisine all-day; Kushi is the Japanese-Korean; Safran is the Indian-tasting register. The Île aux Cerfs Pavillon — the property's signature offshore-island dining experience — operates daily on the offshore island with the Bernhard Langer golf course as the backdrop. The CHI Spa runs eight treatment rooms with Shangri-La's signature traditional-Asian programme; the indoor 18-metre lap pool sits in the spa pavilion. The five outdoor pools (the family pool, the adults-only, the lagoon-edge, the Frangipani Villa private pool, the Îlot Mangénie beach pool), the Bernhard Langer golf course on Île aux Cerfs (accessible by complimentary in-house boat), and the Adults-Only Îlot Mangénie beach club complete the operational programme.

The Trou d'Eau Douce position is the booking proposition. From the property it is 50 minutes by car to MRU airport, 45 minutes to Port Louis, and 5 minutes by complimentary boat to Île aux Cerfs. The eastern Mauritius coast is the principal luxury-resort coast; Trou d'Eau Douce is 8 km south of Belle Mare.
