Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort

SBM's 2005 resort-format property on the Larvotto peninsula — 334 rooms across four hectares with the Mediterranean on three sides, a sand-bottom lagoon pool, the Cinq Mondes spa, the Buddha-Bar restaurant, and the only resort-format hotel within the borders of the Principality.

Family Wellness Honeymoon Five-Star

"SBM's contemporary, resort-format flagship — 334 rooms across four hectares on the Larvotto peninsula, the only Monaco hotel with a sand-bottom lagoon swimming pool, the Cinq Mondes spa, and a sea-on-three-sides position. The family and wellness answer when the Place du Casino addresses are the wrong fit for the brief."

The Hotel

The Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort opened in March 2005 on the Larvotto peninsula — the eastern coastal point of the Principality, half a kilometre east of Place du Casino. The project was the Société des Bains de Mer's first resort-format hotel of the modern era, conceived as the contemporary, lifestyle-resort counterpart to the historic Belle Époque programme of the Hôtel de Paris and the Hôtel Hermitage. The architects (the firm of Luc Svetchine and Christian Curau) drew the building as a low-rise, four-hectare resort that wraps around an artificial lagoon with the Mediterranean on three sides — the largest single-property hotel footprint within the borders of the Principality and the only Monaco hotel that genuinely reads as a resort rather than as an urban property with a beach extension.

The 334 rooms (including 49 suites) are arranged across the main building's six floors and the lagoon-side wings. Standard Classic rooms run 32–38 square metres, all with private balconies; the Sea View categories face south across the Larvotto coastline and the Mediterranean; the Lagoon View categories face the resort's central feature. Junior Suites and Suites are larger; the named units — the Suite Présidentielle on the top floor with the largest private terrace in the SBM portfolio — are the headline bookings. Every room category was refurbished in the 2018–2019 SBM-wide programme; the resort's family-of-four and connecting-room configurations are the most generous of any Monaco hotel.

The dining and bar programme is the most sustained of any Monaco hotel: Blue Bay (two Michelin stars under chef Marcel Ravin, the only Caribbean-Mediterranean two-star kitchen in Europe) is the flagship; the Buddha-Bar Monte-Carlo on the lower level is the SBM's nightlife venue (the largest international Buddha-Bar outside Paris); the L'Orange Verte by Cipriani is the daytime poolside restaurant; the Las Brisas runs the casual seafront grill on the lagoon edge. The Cinq Mondes Spa Monte-Carlo (the international flagship of the Cinq Mondes treatment programme) operates a 940-square-metre wellness centre with treatment rooms, hammam, and a heated indoor pool. The lagoon — the resort's central architectural feature — is a sand-bottom freshwater swimming pool with a beach edge, the only such pool of any Monaco hotel and the principal reason families book the Bay over the Place du Casino addresses.

Position is the third proposition: the Larvotto peninsula sits at the eastern end of the Principality, a fifteen-minute walk along Avenue Princesse Grace to Place du Casino (or three minutes by bus or hotel car), seven minutes' walk to the Larvotto public beach, and forty minutes by car to Nice Côte d'Azur Airport. The SBM concierge runs the same private gaming-room booking, restaurant book, and helicopter-transfer programme as the Place du Casino properties; the Monte-Carlo Bay is the Société des Bains de Mer's address for guests whose brief is sea, sun, family, and wellness rather than the ceremonial Casino-square set piece. The 2024 Larvotto regeneration project — the new public beach, the seafront promenade, the Carlo restaurant complex on the new Larvotto pier — has reset the eastern Principality and brought the Bay's neighbourhood to its strongest editorial position since opening.

Best Occasion Fit

Family

The Bay is the obvious Monaco family answer — the sand-bottom lagoon pool is the only safe-edge swimming feature of any Monaco hotel, the Cinq Mondes spa runs a parallel kids' programme, and the connecting-room and Junior Suite configurations are the most generous in the Principality. The Larvotto public beach is seven minutes on foot; the Princess Grace Rose Garden, the Oceanographic Museum, and the Monaco Top Cars collection are all within fifteen minutes by hotel car. The brief that the Hôtel de Paris and Hôtel Métropole consciously decline.

Wellness

For Monaco wellness retreats the Bay is the resort-format answer — the Cinq Mondes Spa Monte-Carlo (the international flagship of the Cinq Mondes brand) runs the most extensive single-property treatment programme in the Principality. The lagoon pool, the heated indoor wellness pool, the morning yoga deck on the Mediterranean side, and the residence-format three- to seven-night wellness packages from SBM are the disciplined version of the brief. The Hermitage's Thermes Marins access is the alternative for guests who want the Place du Casino historic frame; the Bay is the alternative for guests who want the contemporary resort.

Honeymoon

The Bay is the alternative honeymoon answer for couples who want the Mediterranean-resort frame rather than the Belle Époque grand-hotel one — the Sea View Suites face south across the Larvotto coast, dinner at Blue Bay (two Michelin stars, the Caribbean-Mediterranean menu under Marcel Ravin) is the central evening, the Buddha-Bar after dinner is the late venue, and the Place du Casino is fifteen minutes west when guests want it. The Suite Présidentielle on the top floor is the milestone-honeymoon booking.
