A restored 16th-century fortified masseria with a private cliff beach — thirty-nine suites, family-run by the Muolo family for two generations, the most personal small-property Puglia luxury.
"Restored 16th-century fortified masseria with private cliff beach. 39 suites, family-run for two generations — the most personal small Puglia luxury."
Masseria Torre Coccaro opened as a luxury hotel in 2003 in a restored 16th-century fortified masseria near Savelletri di Fasano on the Apulian Adriatic coast — owned and operated by the Muolo family, who have managed the property for two generations and continue to live and work on the property daily. The masseria itself was originally built around a 16th-century defensive watchtower, with the agricultural and family structures added over subsequent centuries; the restoration preserved every surviving stone, vaulted ceiling, and original architectural feature.
The 39 suites split between rooms in the original masseria and the smaller Trulli accommodations (the cone-roofed dry-stone-construction structures unique to Puglia) plus the multi-bedroom Suite Coccaro options. The Trulli suites — restored authentic trulli structures used as accommodations — are the property's most distinctive category and a particularly Pugliese architectural experience. The family-run service approach means the property feels less like a hotel and more like staying at the Muolo family's private 16th-century estate.
The grounds — the restored masseria, the private cliff beach (one of the few private beaches on this section of the Apulian coast, with cliff-side access via a path from the property), the heated swimming pool, the gardens, the small spa, and the working olive grove (the property's own oil) — are intimate. The cliff beach is the property's most photographed asset; the cliff diving boards and the rocky-cove swimming work for the right kind of beach traveller (less suited for very young children).
Dining is at the property's two restaurants. Cibus is the headline Pugliese fine-dining restaurant in the original masseria's restored kitchen. The Trullo Bar & Restaurant is the casual all-day. The wine programme is heavily Pugliese-focused with the property's own olive oil and produce featured. Service is the consistent small-family-owned standard. Masseria Torre Coccaro is the most personal Puglia luxury answer for travellers who want the small-property family-owned masseria experience.
The Puglia honeymoon at the smaller, family-owned masseria. Book a Trullo suite for the unique architectural experience or a Suite Coccaro for the larger configuration. The Cibus dinner; the cliff beach swimming; the Muolo family's personal-attention service. The honeymoon at Torre Coccaro is the smaller and more intimate version of Puglia masseria luxury.
For anniversaries the multi-bedroom Suite Coccaro options work for couples who want the family-owned property's personal-attention. Vow renewals at the property's small chapel, private dinners on the cliff, and the kind of milestone arrangements that small-property family operators handle particularly well.
Masseria Torre Coccaro's multi-bedroom suites, the working olive grove (children can participate in olive harvest in October), the cooking school, and the cliff beach work for families with older children. The smaller scale and family-ownership produce a different feel than the larger integrated-resort options.
