Borgo Santo Pietro is a restored medieval Tuscan village near Chiusdino in the Siena province, founded as a hospice for pilgrims on the via Francigena route in the 13th century, restored over a multi-year programme by Danish founders Jeanette and Claus Thottrup beginning in 2001, and a Relais & Châteaux member since 2013. The property is one of the most idiosyncratic and personally-shaped luxury hotels in Italy, the Thottrup family remains involved daily, the staff are deeply trained, and the property's identity is the family's vision rather than a corporate template.
The suites are distributed across the original medieval village buildings, restored stone houses, converted farm buildings, and the main villa, whose eight individually themed rooms and suites are crowned by the Santo Pietro Grand Suite across the full south wing.
