The short answer: Capella's newest hotel is Capella Kyoto, open since 22 March 2026 in the Miyagawa-cho geisha district. Capella at Galaxy Macau opened that February, and Capella Taipei has traded since April 2025. Next come Capella Nanjing in 2026 and Capella Diriyah in 2027, with Florence now posted for 2028.

We may earn a commission when you book through links on this page, at no extra cost to you. Rankings are editorial and never sold. Opening dates, key counts and details were checked in July 2026 against Capella Hotel Group's press room, its property pages and named developer sources. Dates for unopened hotels are targets and can move; we say so on each entry.
Years behind a concierge desk teach you to read a hotel opening differently. The renderings tell you little; the staffing announcements, the reservation systems going live and the brand's own date discipline tell you everything. Capella runs one of the smallest portfolios in ultra-luxury, ten hotels open worldwide as of July 2026, and it opens slowly on purpose, which is exactly why each debut matters. This tracker lists what is genuinely open and bookable now, newest first, then the dated pipeline, with every claim tied to the brand's press room or the developer actually pouring the concrete. Where Capella's own dates have drifted, and several have, you will find that noted plainly rather than buried.
Quick comparison

| Capella Taipei | Taipei, Taiwan | 1 April 2025 | 86 keys | Open |

| Capella Diriyah | Diriyah, Saudi Arabia | 2027 per the brand | ~100 rooms & suites | Under development |
How we checked every date
Ordering is by status first, then date: open and taking guests leads, then projects with a posted year. Each date was verified in July 2026 against Capella Hotel Group's own press releases, its live destination menu, or the developer of record (NTT Urban Development in Kyoto, Diriyah Company in Saudi Arabia). Where the brand's stated year has changed between announcements, we show both the original and the current one, because a slipped date is useful information, not an embarrassment to hide. Unopened hotels carry targets, not promises; we re-check this page on a quarterly cycle. Full methodology here.
The openings, newest first

Miyagawa-cho, Kyoto, Japan · Open
Opened 22 March 2026 · 89 rooms · Japan debut
The welcome: Capella timed its Japan debut to the cherry blossoms, opening on 22 March 2026 in Miyagawa-cho, one of Kyoto's five historic geisha districts, steps from Kenninji, the city's oldest Zen temple. The 89-room hotel by Kengo Kuma and Associates with Brewin Design Office stands on the former site of Shinmichi Elementary School, part of a street-long project that also restored the Miyagawa-cho Kaburenjo Theatre. Service is the bet here: a house this size in this brand's hands should know your name by the second morning.
Ask for: one of the six suites with a private onsen; they are the rooms that make this address singular. The Auriga Spa adds three private onsen rooms plus wet and dry saunas. At table, SoNoMa by SingleThread pairs the hotel with the three-Michelin-star SingleThread team from Sonoma, built around an intimate 12-seat counter, with a 20-seat lounge bar styled after a traditional ochaya. How to book: open now, and best booked well ahead for spring and autumn weeks.
The fine print: this is a first-season hotel in a city already crowded with new luxury names, and even superb teams need a season to find their rhythm; expect refinement, not yet perfection, and note that Miyagawa-cho evenings draw sightseers.

Cotai, Macau, China · Open
Opened 10 February 2026 · 93 keys · Forbes Five-Star in year one
The welcome: Capella's Greater Bay Area debut opened its doors on 10 February 2026 inside the Galaxy Macau resort, a 93-key hotel built with Galaxy Entertainment Group and first announced in April 2024. The proof of the service came fast: Forbes Travel Guide handed it a Five-Star rating in its debut recognition at the 2026 Star Awards, joining five other Capella Hotel Group properties at that level.
Ask for: clarity on access when you book. A hotel inside a mega-resort lives or dies on how well it insulates its guests, and the entire pitch here is a quiet, art-filled sanctuary with dedicated arrival, away from the casino floors. How to book: open and bookable now; pair it with our Macau hotel guide to weigh it against the peninsula classics.
The fine print: you are still within one of the world's largest integrated resorts, so if your idea of Capella is Ubud's tented camp or a riverside villa in Bangkok, the Cotai setting will feel like a different brand wearing the same name.

Dunhua North Road, Taipei, Taiwan · Open
Capella Taipei
Opened 1 April 2025 · 86 keys · Taiwan debut
The welcome: the brand's first Taiwanese hotel opened on 1 April 2025 along the tree-lined Dunhua North Road, an 86-key urban house minutes from the Taipei 101 district. A year in, it has settled into exactly what a small Capella should be: a residential-feeling base where the front desk remembers your coffee order and the concierge desk earns its keep on restaurant bookings.
Ask for: an evening at The Glasshouse, the standalone tri-level bar the hotel unveiled in September 2025, three connected venues named Tilt, Cooper and Playback that mix cocktails with music programming. It is the rare hotel bar addition worth planning a night around. How to book: open now, and the most proven stay on this list after a full year of operation.
The fine print: this is a business-district city hotel, not a resort; travelers hunting the destination-Capella feel of Ubud or Hainan should treat Taipei as a polished stopover rather than the trip itself.

Nanjing, China · Under development
Capella Nanjing
Posted for 2026 · 190 rooms, suites & villas · David Chipperfield Architects
The welcome, when it comes: Capella's third mainland China property is designed by David Chipperfield Architects in timber, travertine and brick, with a series of gardens arranged around a 360-year-old ginkgo tree. At 190 rooms, suites and villas it will be one of the largest houses the brand has attempted, with a Winter Garden, Manor Club, Auriga Spa and a Capella retail street on the plans.
Ask before you book: whether reservations have actually opened. The brand's property page says simply "Opening in 2026" with an enquiry address rather than a booking engine as of July 2026. Watch instead: the brand's own destination menu, which is where real dates appear first.
The fine print: Capella announced Nanjing in April 2023 for a 2025 opening, and it now carries 2026 with no month attached. One slip is normal in luxury construction; it also means you should not plan a trip around this one until a firm day is published.

Diriyah, Saudi Arabia · Under development
Capella Diriyah
2027 per the brand · ~100 rooms & suites · Middle East debut
The welcome, when it comes: Capella's first Middle Eastern hotel is planned for the Northern Cultural District of the Diriyah development outside Riyadh, overlooking Wadi Hanifah near the At-Turaif UNESCO World Heritage Site. The developer, Diriyah Company, describes roughly 100 rooms and suites in Najdi-inspired architecture, four dining venues, a hammam-led spa and a rooftop pool facing the heritage district.
Ask before you plan: which year is current. Capella announced the project in December 2023, some coverage carried 2026, and the brand's own destination menu now shows 2027; Fortune's May 2026 interview with Capella leadership also framed the Saudi debut as a 2027 event. How to book: you cannot yet; watch the brand site.
The fine print: giga-project hotels answer to a master developer's timetable as much as the operator's, and Diriyah is a district being built from the ground up, so treat 2027 as the best current estimate rather than a date to buy flights against.

Still to come from Capella and Patina
Beyond the five above, the brand's own destination menu now shows Capella Florence in 2028, the European debut announced in June 2025 as a 2027 project, a conversion of a complex of former convents near the Piazza della Liberta in Florence. Further out sit Capella Kenting and Capella Shenzhen, both posted for 2029, and a wellness resort announced in June 2024 for Elanan within NEOM on Saudi Arabia's Gulf of Aqaba coast, which carries no public date. The sister brand is busy too: Patina Tianjin is listed for 2026 in Tianjin's Italian Heritage District, with Patina Sanya to follow in 2029. On the residential side, Capella Residences Seoul is now shown for 2029 after being announced for 2027, with Brisbane's Shafston House conversion posted for 2029 and a 262-unit Bangkok residences project announced in June 2026 for 2030. In May 2026, Fortune reported the group intends to roughly double its portfolio by 2030 under new president Roland Fasel.
Why do Capella opening dates slip, and how should you book around it?
Read the brand's own press releases in sequence and the pattern is unmistakable. Kyoto was announced in 2022 for mid-2025 and opened in March 2026. Nanjing was announced for 2025 and now says 2026. Florence went from 2027 at announcement to 2028 on the destination menu within a year. Seoul's residences have moved from 2027 to 2029 across three successive communications. None of this is unusual for heritage conversions and giga-projects, and Capella is at least transparent, updating its own menus rather than letting stale dates stand. The practical rule from this desk: book the open hotels freely, treat any posted year as a season at best, and never confirm nonrefundable flights around an unopened Capella until its booking engine is live and taking real dates. When reservations opened for Kyoto in November 2025, the hotel honored its stated day to the letter, so the system works once a hard date exists.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the newest Capella hotel?
- Capella Kyoto, which opened on 22 March 2026 in Miyagawa-cho, one of Kyoto's historic geisha districts, steps from Kenninji temple. Designed by Kengo Kuma and Associates with Brewin Design Office, it has 89 rooms, six suites with private onsen, an Auriga Spa with three private onsen rooms, and SoNoMa by SingleThread, a restaurant created with the three-Michelin-star team from Sonoma, California.
- Which Capella hotels opened in 2026?
- Two so far. Capella at Galaxy Macau opened on 10 February 2026, a 93-key hotel inside the Galaxy Macau resort that earned a Forbes Five-Star rating in its first eligible year. Capella Kyoto followed on 22 March 2026 as the brand's first hotel in Japan. Capella Nanjing is also posted for 2026 on the brand's site but had not opened as of July 2026.
- When does Capella Nanjing open?
- Capella's official site lists Capella Nanjing as opening in 2026, without a month. It will have 190 rooms, suites and villas designed by David Chipperfield Architects, with gardens arranged around a 360-year-old ginkgo tree. Worth knowing: the hotel was originally announced for 2025, so treat the 2026 window as a target rather than a booking date until reservations open.
- When does Capella Diriyah in Saudi Arabia open?
- Capella's own destination listing currently shows Diriyah in 2027. The developer, Diriyah Company, describes a hotel of around 100 rooms and suites in the Northern Cultural District overlooking Wadi Hanifah, near the At-Turaif UNESCO World Heritage Site. Earlier coverage carried a 2026 date, so this is one to re-check before you plan a trip around it.
- When does Capella Florence open?
- Capella announced its European debut in Florence in June 2025 with a 2027 target, converting a complex of former convents near the Piazza della Liberta. The brand's own destination menu now lists Florence with a 2028 date, so the project has slipped by roughly a year. It remains Capella's first confirmed hotel in Europe.
- Is Capella opening a hotel in the United States?
- Nothing with a confirmed date. In May 2026, Fortune reported that Capella's leadership plans to roughly double the portfolio by 2030 and is looking at US markets, but as of July 2026 the brand's own destination list shows no American property. Treat any US Capella talk as ambition, not a bookable plan.
- What is Patina and how does it relate to Capella?
- Patina Hotels and Resorts is Capella Hotel Group's second brand, pitched slightly younger and more relaxed than Capella itself. Two are open, Patina Maldives at Fari Islands and Patina Osaka, with Patina Tianjin listed for 2026 in Tianjin's Italian Heritage District and Patina Sanya posted for 2029. If a Capella city is not on the map yet, a Patina sometimes is.
- Is Capella still rated the world's best hotel brand?
- Travel + Leisure readers named Capella the world's best hotel brand for the third consecutive year in July 2025. Separately, Capella Bangkok placed No.3 in The World's 50 Best Hotels 2025, and six Capella Hotel Group properties held Forbes Five-Star ratings in the 2026 Star Awards. The awards trail is current, not historic.
