The short answer: EDITION's newest hotel is The Dali EDITION, open since June 2026 on the slopes of Cangshan Mountain above Erhai Lake. The Cape Town EDITION is slated for the third quarter of 2026 at the V&A Waterfront, with The Detroit EDITION to follow in 2027 and Dallas further out.

We may earn a commission when you book through links on this page, at no extra cost to you. Rankings are editorial and never sold. Opening dates, room counts and design credits were checked in July 2026 against EDITION's official pipeline page, Marriott press releases and named developer sources. Dates for unopened hotels are targets and can move; each entry says so plainly.
Dusk settles over Erhai Lake the way silk settles over the back of a chair, slowly and without a sound, and since June there has been an EDITION on the mountainside to watch it from. That is worth a page of its own, because Marriott's design-led luxury brand opens rarely enough that each debut redraws the map for travelers who plan whole trips around one hotel. What follows is every EDITION with a date you can act on, newest first, each one checked in July 2026 against the brand's own coming soon list, Marriott's press office or the developer of record. Where a year is a target rather than a promise, the entry admits it. A tracker that flatters construction schedules is no use to anyone planning an anniversary around a first night.

How we verified these dates
Entries run status first, then date: the hotel taking guests tonight leads, followed by projects in order of their posted year. Every date was checked in July 2026 against EDITION's own coming soon page, Marriott's press office, or the developer building the thing (V&A Waterfront Holdings in Cape Town, Bedrock in Detroit). Where trade reporting and the brand disagree, we quote both and say which we trust. Unopened hotels carry targets, not promises, and this page is re-checked quarterly. Full methodology here.

Cangshan Mountain, Dali, China · Open
The Dali EDITION
Opened June 2026 · 151 rooms & suites · EDITION's 23rd destination
The feeling: morning here begins at 2,090 metres, with mist lifting off Erhai Lake and a rare natural spring threading through the gardens below your terrace. The brand announced the hotel open on 18 June 2026, its third address in Greater China and, by Marriott's count, its 23rd destination worldwide. The 151 rooms and suites include a set of private pool villas, and the day is built around slow rituals: afternoon tea arrives at your table by trolley, and the spa keeps five private treatment rooms beside a 25 metre indoor pool and a yoga terrace that opens to the mountain air.
Book this: a lake-facing room or, for an occasion, one of the pool villas; the whole point of this address is waking up to water and Cangshan's slopes at once. Four dining venues anchor the evenings, led by KUSHO, with the Lobby Bar for a quiet last glass. How to book: open and bookable now through EDITION and Marriott channels, at 6 Wan Fu North Road, Dali.
Said plainly: this is a first-season hotel, and even beautiful ones spend months finding their rhythm; the altitude also asks a gentle first day of travelers arriving from sea level. Dali itself is a beloved domestic escape, so holiday weeks around Old Town will not be quiet.

V&A Waterfront, Cape Town, South Africa · Under development
Q3 2026 target · 142 rooms & suites · Africa debut
The feeling, when it comes: picture a harbourside evening where the light leaves Table Mountain last, and you have the promise of EDITION's first African hotel. Announced by Marriott and V&A Waterfront Holdings in late 2024, the property will hold 142 rooms and suites plus six private residences inside a precinct that is still a working harbour, with sightlines to the Atlantic, Lion's Head and Signal Hill. Shanghai's Neri & Hu is designing with Cape Town's own StudioMAS, and the plans carry the brand's familiar pleasures: a rooftop bar, a spa and a pool.
Before you plan: brand leadership told WWD in May 2026 that the doors open in the third quarter of 2026, and as of early July the hotel still sits on EDITION's own coming soon list with no booking engine live. Watch the brand site; reservations opening is the only date that counts. Meanwhile: our Cape Town guide covers the houses taking guests tonight.
Said plainly: a quarter is a season, not a date, and harbour-precinct construction has a way of finding one more delay. The V&A is also among the most visited spots in South Africa, so serenity will depend on how well the entrance sequence shelters guests from the crowds.

Woodward Avenue, Detroit, USA · Under construction
Opening 2027 · 227 rooms · Midwest debut
The feeling, when it comes: there is a particular romance to a city getting its first true luxury flag, and Detroit's arrives inside the Hudson's Detroit tower on Woodward Avenue, on the site where the great department store once stood. Due in 2027, the hotel will carry 227 rooms across the high-rise, four restaurants and bars including a rooftop bar with an outdoor terrace, a pool, a spa and more than 16,000 square feet of event space. Crain's Detroit Business reports it is positioned to become the city's first five star hotel, and the adjoining Residences at The Detroit EDITION will add 97 condominiums with river views.
Before you plan: 2027 is the year given by the developer Bedrock and repeated across the trade press, but no month has been published and reservations are not open. For weddings and anniversaries in 2027, hold your date loosely until the booking engine goes live. Meanwhile: see what Detroit offers today.
Said plainly: this is EDITION inside an under-construction skyscraper, and tower hotels almost never open early; the five star billing is an ambition until inspectors say otherwise, so book the first season for the novelty, not for polish.

Uptown Dallas, Texas, USA · Announced
Toward 2028 · 214 keys · Texas debut
The feeling, when it comes: Texas has waited a long while for this brand, and it lands as the centrepiece of Chalk Hill, a mixed use development rising in Uptown Dallas. The hotel is planned at 214 keys with an adjoining Residences at The Dallas EDITION component, giving the brand its first address in the state and a second act in the American South after Nashville finally opens. Expect the house signatures, though detailed plans for restaurants and the spa have not yet been published.
Before you plan: the developer's stated timeline puts the wider Chalk Hill project's delivery toward the end of 2028, and the hotel has no standalone opening date. This entry exists so you can calibrate expectations, not so you can book. Meanwhile: our Dallas guide has the suites worth booking this year.
Said plainly: announced hotels inside multi-tower developments are the most delay-prone category in luxury travel, and this one is at the mercy of the whole scheme's construction sequence; treat every printed year as provisional until EDITION itself posts a date.

What else is on EDITION's coming soon list?
Eleven more destinations wait behind the four above, and the brand's own pipeline page named them all in July 2026: Arava Desert in Israel, Athens, Bali, Doha, Kuala Lumpur, Mexico City, Milan, Mumbai, Nashville, Nayarit on Mexico's Pacific coast, and Riyadh. None carries a published opening date on the brand site, and Nashville is the cautionary tale of the group: once pointed at 2025 in local reporting, it remains unopened with a residences project attached and no confirmed date. In May 2026, WWD reported the fuller ambition in an interview with brand leadership: 16 new properties that would take EDITION from roughly its current footprint to 38 hotels by 2030, with Chicago, Shanghai's Changfeng Park, Dubai Beach and a second Bali property at Nusa Dua also in the conversation. The residential side grows in step, with residences attached to Detroit, Dallas and Nashville, standalone EDITION Residences in Miami's Edgewater and Fort Lauderdale, and the established Residences at the Tokyo EDITION, Toranomon. If those numbers hold, the quiet brand becomes a considerably less rare one, which is its own trade-off.
Which EDITION should you actually plan a trip around?
The honest calculus runs like this. Dali is real, open and photographing beautifully, and a first-season stay there is a calculated risk that mostly pays off for travelers who value newness over a settled routine. Cape Town is close enough to touch, and if the third-quarter target holds, a southern-hemisphere spring opening would land right at the start of the city's best season, November through March on the water; even so, do not buy flights against a quarter. Detroit and Dallas are for the watchlist, not the calendar. The rule this desk applies to EDITION, as to every luxury flag: a date becomes real the day the booking engine starts taking it, and everything before that day is weather.
Frequently asked questions
- What is the newest EDITION hotel?
- The Dali EDITION in China's Yunnan province, which the brand announced open on 18 June 2026. Set at 2,090 metres on the slopes of Cangshan Mountain overlooking Erhai Lake, it has 151 rooms and suites including private pool villas, a spa with five private treatment rooms, a 25 metre indoor pool and four dining venues. Marriott counts it as EDITION's 23rd destination worldwide.
- When does the Cape Town EDITION open?
- Trade press interviews with brand leadership in spring 2026 put the opening in the third quarter of 2026, and as of July 2026 the hotel still sits on EDITION's own coming soon list. It will bring 142 rooms and suites plus six private residences to Cape Town's V&A Waterfront, designed by Neri & Hu with StudioMAS, as the brand's first hotel in Africa.
- When does the Detroit EDITION open?
- In 2027, inside the Hudson's Detroit tower on Woodward Avenue. The hotel will have 227 rooms, four restaurants and bars including a rooftop bar, a pool, a spa and more than 16,000 square feet of event space, and Crain's Detroit Business reports it is positioned to become the city's first five star hotel. The adjoining Residences at The Detroit EDITION will add 97 condominiums.
- Is EDITION opening a hotel in Texas?
- Yes. The Dallas EDITION will anchor the Chalk Hill mixed use development in Uptown Dallas with 214 keys plus an adjoining residences component, the brand's Texas debut. The wider project is slated to deliver toward the end of 2028, and the hotel carries no standalone opening date yet, so treat it as an announcement rather than a plan to book around.
- Is the Nashville EDITION open yet?
- No. Nashville appears on EDITION's official coming soon list as of July 2026, alongside a planned Residences at The Nashville EDITION, but the brand has published no confirmed opening date. Earlier local reporting once pointed to 2025, which has clearly passed, so wait for a date from the brand itself before planning a stay.
- How many new EDITION hotels are planned in total?
- EDITION's own pipeline page listed fifteen coming soon destinations in July 2026: Arava Desert, Athens, Bali, Cape Town, Dali, Dallas, Detroit, Doha, Kuala Lumpur, Mexico City, Milan, Mumbai, Nashville, Nayarit and Riyadh. In May 2026, WWD reported the brand plans 16 new properties that would nearly double the portfolio to 38 hotels by 2030.
- Can you book EDITION hotels with Marriott Bonvoy points?
- Yes. EDITION is part of Marriott International's luxury group and participates in Marriott Bonvoy, so open hotels including The Dali EDITION can be booked through Marriott channels with points or cash. Unopened properties only become bookable once their reservation systems go live, which is also the most reliable signal that an opening date is real.
