Patricia Urquiola-designed, 13th-century pilgrim hostel turned hotel — the contemporary-anniversary base.
"Patricia Urquiola-designed, 13th-century pilgrim hostel turned hotel — the contemporary-anniversary base."
Ca' di Dio opened in 2021 in the restored 13th-century pilgrim hostel of the same name on the Riva degli Schiavoni (the property hosted Venetian-Crusade pilgrims from 1272 onwards) — Patricia Urquiola designed the property in the contemporary-design language she has used at the Sereno Como and the Mandarin Oriental Barcelona. Sixty-six rooms across the multi-floor complex, the upper-tier Suite Lagoon View (with private outdoor terrace and lagoon view) is the working anniversary flagship. The asset is the Patricia Urquiola design language — the contemporary-design Italian-luxury aesthetic in the historic pilgrim-hostel architecture is the most-design-coherent contemporary Venice opening of the past five years. Alchemia Restaurant (the in-house dining) and the Vero Bar (the rooftop cocktail terrace with the Bacino San Marco view) handle the working spaces. Ca' di Dio is the right pick for the contemporary-design anniversary couple who finds the traditional Venice palazzi too formal — the trip's photograph aesthetic is the Patricia-Urquiola contemporary interior, and the Castello-Riva-degli-Schiavoni position is the working calmer-canal alternative to the central San Marco cluster.
Suite Lagoon View (the cliff-edge upper-tier with terrace) or Junior Suite Lagoon View for the working couple-of-friends option.
Photograph the Urquiola interior at golden hour — the working contemporary-anniversary aesthetic. Vero Bar at 6pm for the rooftop sunset cocktail. Walk to St Mark's Square at 7am — 8 minutes from the hotel.
Ca' di Dio sits within our broader Top 20 Hotels in Venice for an Anniversary list. It scored an aggregate 9.6/10 across the three editorial criteria — competitive against the field but, on an anniversary-specific factors, the angle above is what earned its rank. For the alternatives in the same Venice neighbourhood, see Castello, Riva degli Schiavoni and adjacent. For a different city entirely, see the related lists below.
If you have already chosen the dates, our editor recommends booking the room twelve weeks ahead. The best suites with the right view orientation go first, and inventory for the popular months is quoted in months, not weeks. Suite-level rooms with private plunge pools or terraces — the ones that earn this rank — are typically the first to sell out.
