65 rooms and suites at the southern end of Shoal Bay East — a 1,300-metre talcum-sand beach that holds the National Geographic top-ten ranking — with the only 17th-century Thai sala spa pavilion in the Caribbean and the strongest boutique-luxury offer in Anguilla.
"65 keys on Shoal Bay East — the National Geographic top-ten beach. LXR Hotels & Resorts (Hilton's luxury collection), the only 17th-century-rebuilt Thai sala spa pavilion in the Caribbean, and the most disciplined boutique-and-spa proposition on the island."
Zemi Beach House opened in 2016 at the southern end of Shoal Bay East, the 1,300-metre stretch of talcum-grade white sand and reef-protected turquoise water on Anguilla's northeast coast that has held the top-ten place on National Geographic's Caribbean beach rankings for two decades. The property is the long-running passion project of New York-based developer Tom Coley and his wife Jodi — they conceived the resort in 2007, broke ground in 2010, and finally opened after multiple hurricane-recovery phases in late 2016. Zemi joined the LXR Hotels & Resorts collection (Hilton's luxury arm) in 2018, which it remains the second-oldest member of, and is the only LXR property in the eastern Caribbean.
The 65-key plan combines Beach Suites in the main building, Cottages in the lower garden tier, and a three-room Penthouse on the top floor of the main building. Footprints run from 60-sqm Beach Suites through the 100-sqm Two-Bedroom Cottage configuration to the 280-sqm Penthouse with private rooftop terrace. The interior register is the contemporary-Caribbean signature of New York-based interior designer Gisela Garcia — limestone-and-coral palette, custom-millwork closet detailing, walk-in rainfall showers in every category, and the deliberate decision to keep all room categories adults-orientated rather than configuring for children. The result reads as a deliberately small, deliberately quiet boutique-resort register inside a Hilton brand framework.
What is structurally distinctive about Zemi — and what places it on the regional architectural map — is the spa. The 8,000-sqft Zemi Thai House Spa is built around a genuine 17th-century Thai sala — a teak meditation pavilion that the Coleys bought, dismantled, shipped from northern Thailand, and reassembled on the property as the central treatment space. The sala is the only Thai-imported architectural feature in any Caribbean luxury hotel and gives the spa a structural register that is impossible to replicate. Treatment programme runs the Thai modality (traditional Thai massage, aromatherapy compress treatments) alongside the standard Caribbean spa offer. The yoga and meditation programme runs daily on the sala's open-air upper floor.
Dining runs three full restaurants. 20 Knots is the all-day beach restaurant on Shoal Bay's sand line — the most-photographed Anguilla beach-restaurant setup since Indigo Bay's pre-Irma days. Stone is the Mediterranean steakhouse fine-dining option in the main building. The Rhum Room is the 100-bottle rum-and-cigar lounge with the most-considered rum collection on the island (a programme that draws from Anguilla's own rum heritage and from Martinique, Jamaica, and Cuba). For a honeymoon that wants Shoal Bay East as the daily setting, a wellness retreat that takes the Thai modality as the spa register, or an anniversary that wants the boutique-luxury scale rather than Cap Juluca's 96-key resort volume, Zemi Beach House is the most considered Anguilla address.
The Beachfront One-Bedroom Suite is the named honeymoon unit — direct Shoal Bay East frontage, private balcony with reef sightline, walk-in rainfall shower, and twice-daily butler service on the higher tiers. The hotel runs a structured honeymoon programme: a private Thai sala couples' massage on the second day, a private dinner on the Shoal Bay sand line on the third night, and a Rhum Room private rum-and-cigar tasting with the head sommelier on the final night.
The Zemi Thai House Spa runs the only 17th-century Thai sala spa pavilion in the Caribbean — the structural distinction that places Zemi above other regional spa-resort offers. The Thai-modality programme (traditional Thai massage, herbal compress, aromatic oil treatments) is the spa's specialty; daily morning yoga on the upper sala floor is the wellness anchor. Multi-night Thai-modality wellness retreat packages of three, five, and seven nights are bookable against the standard rate.
