A 165-room full-service Marriott on Canyon Boulevard close to the federal labs, with a recent boutique-tier room refresh, an indoor pool, the Greenbriar restaurant and bar, and 10,000 square feet of meeting space. The city's mainstream Bonvoy booking.
"The Bonvoy default in a town that does not run on Bonvoy. Useful for the consultant on a client engagement at the labs, less interesting for the leisure visitor with a free choice. Recent room refresh has lifted it above the brand baseline."
The Boulder Marriott opened in 2002 on Canyon Boulevard close to the federal lab corridor and the western edge of the downtown grid, and went through a comprehensive room-level refurbishment in 2022 that introduced a softer boutique-styled product to compete more directly with the Limelight and the Hyatt Place. The seven-storey building reads as conventional mid-2000s Marriott from the street, with the brand's standard porte-cochere and a planted forecourt, but the interior has gained meaningful character: the lobby was reworked with a fireplace, a long communal table, and a quietly Colorado-referencing palette of warm grey, oxidised copper, and pine.
The 165 rooms split between standard kings, double queens, and 12 suites including a 1,000 square foot Presidential Suite on the seventh floor. Standard rooms run 330 to 360 square feet, with the post-refurbishment package: oak headboards, charcoal wool throws, generous desks (these are still business-traveller rooms at heart), 55-inch televisions, and good blackout drapes. Some upper-floor rooms on the south side hold a Flatirons line of sight. Bathrooms are modern but unremarkable. The room product is now competitive with the Hyatt Place and the Embassy at a comparable rate, and somewhat below the Limelight at a meaningfully lower rate.
The Greenbriar restaurant on the ground floor is the food anchor, an all-day American room with a quiet seasonal menu and a reliable breakfast service that handles Bonvoy elite benefits. The lobby bar runs cocktails and a small bar menu in the evenings; the room service operation is conventional for the brand. The hotel is six minutes by car from Pearl Street, which is the right answer for anyone with a free dinner choice; the Greenbriar is the practical answer for the traveller on a tight schedule.
The indoor pool and adjacent hot tub run year round and are the only enclosed hotel pool in central Boulder, an operational point that matters in February. The 24-hour fitness centre is well-equipped and overlooks the pool. The 10,000 square feet of meeting space hosts the city's mid-size corporate events and a fair share of CU-tied conferences; the Bonvoy event sales team is faster to confirm than the independents. Parking is a flat daily rate in the on-site lot. Service is consistent in the Marriott idiom; the front-desk team turns over more than at the St Julien but the Bonvoy elite recognition is reliable.
For a business stay tied to NCAR, NOAA, NIST, or the federal lab corridor, the Marriott is the practical Bonvoy default at a meaningful rate discount to the St Julien. The desk-first room product, the elite breakfast, the indoor pool for February, the 24-hour fitness centre, and the on-site Greenbriar restaurant cover the week without ceremony. Bonvoy elite recognition is reliable.
For a winter family weekend the indoor pool is the operational advantage no other Boulder property holds (the Embassy and the Hyatt run outdoor pools that close on the colder days). Double-queen rooms sleep four; the Presidential Suite sleeps six; the on-site restaurant covers the breakfast meal. Pearl Street is six minutes by car, the Chautauqua trailhead 10 minutes.
