The Aspen Skiing Company's first Boulder property, 252 rooms on the corner of University and Broadway directly opposite the CU campus gate, with a heated outdoor pool, the city's largest hotel ballroom, and a contemporary product calibrated for the design-led traveller.
"The Aspen Skiing Company knows how to run a hotel. Twenty years of Limelight Aspen and Limelight Snowmass have produced a Boulder property that is design-aware without being precious, has the only proper hotel pool in town, and lives exactly opposite the CU campus."
Limelight Hotel Boulder opened in 2024 on a long-disputed parcel at the gateway of University Hill, directly opposite the CU campus's western entrance. The building is the work of architects Rowland+Broughton and the Aspen Skiing Company's in-house development team, the third Limelight property after Aspen (2009) and Snowmass (2018) and the first in an urban university setting. The exterior is a quiet composition of red brick and Cor-ten steel that defers to the historic streetscape; the interior is brighter and more contemporary, with a 60-foot soaring lobby, a wood-clad climbing wall, and direct walk-out to a sheltered courtyard.
The 252 rooms are split between 210 standard rooms (300 to 380 square feet) and 42 oversize suites (550 to 1,200 square feet). The room product borrows the Limelight house code from Aspen: blonde wood, charcoal upholstery, plenty of light, hexagonal tile in the bathrooms, and a deliberately uncluttered nightstand layout. Upper-floor suites on the south side hold the only proper Flatirons line of sight from any Boulder hotel room. Family configurations include connecting rooms and bunk-bed studios, and the brand's pet-friendly programme is among the most genuinely useful in the market.
The food offer is split across three rooms. The Lobby Bar is the all-day room and the city's best craft cocktail address; the rooftop deck operates seasonally with a wood-fired oven and direct Flatirons views; and the all-day cafe Common Grounds handles coffee and grab-and-go. The property does not run a flagship dining room, which is the correct decision given the depth of independent Boulder restaurants two minutes downhill on the Hill and 12 minutes by foot at Pearl Street.
The pool deck is the single feature that separates Limelight from every competitor in town. The heated outdoor lap pool and hot tub run year round, with cabanas, a poolside bar, and a clean Flatirons view; this is the Boulder hotel pool, and it justifies the booking on its own in summer. The 15,000 square foot ballroom and conference suite serves the campus's heavy summer conference calendar and the CU football home games; the 24 hour fitness centre is well-equipped, and the climbing wall in the lobby is functional rather than decorative.
For a Boulder family weekend, the Limelight is the only address with a working hotel pool, a climbing wall in the lobby, and a pet-friendly programme that is genuinely operational rather than nominal. Book a bunk studio for two children, request the south-side window for the Flatirons view, and use the courtyard for breakfast. Pearl Street is 12 minutes downhill on foot through CU.
For a CU-tied conference or a corporate offsite tied to the campus's federal labs and tech tenants, the 15,000 square foot ballroom is the largest hotel event suite in Boulder. The brand's IT desk understands hybrid events, and the post-session pool deck is the operating advantage no competitor matches.
For a more active wellness weekend than the St Julien spa-led model, the Limelight's combination of pool, climbing wall, on-site bike rental, and direct walk-out to the Flatirons trail network builds a movement-led three days without a car. The brand's morning yoga is included with most direct rates.
