A 150-room newly renovated Hyatt Place at Depot Square at Boulder Junction, the city's first transit-oriented development, with complimentary breakfast, indoor pool, and a 15-minute walk to the Dairy Arts Centre and the 29th Street shopping district.
"The honest mid-tier room in Boulder, recently refreshed and well-located at the Junction, with the free breakfast that the traveller cares about. Less interesting than the Limelight and less central than the Boulderado, but priced to match."
The Hyatt Place opened in 2014 at Depot Square at Boulder Junction, the city's first transit-oriented mixed-use development on the site of the historic Boulder rail depot. The five-storey building is part of a larger pedestrian plaza that includes apartment housing, several restaurants, the relocated historic depot building, and the bus station for the Flatiron Flyer service to Denver. A full property refurbishment in 2023 lifted the room product from the Hyatt Place baseline to something closer to a Hyatt Centric in finish, with the public spaces opened up and a more deliberately designed lobby that reads as a contemporary urban gathering room rather than a brand template.
The 150 rooms are split between standard kings, double queens, and a small number of suites. The post-2023 product runs 350 to 420 square feet, with the brand's signature curved divider between the bedroom and the sitting area, a 55-inch wall-mounted television, a small wet bar, and a sleeper sofa in the sitting area that converts useful sleeping for a third or fourth guest. The bathroom has a separate water closet from the vanity, useful for two-person travel. Finish is contemporary in soft greys, with oak accents and the Hyatt Place house art programme. Some upper-floor rooms on the southwest corner hold a Flatirons line of sight.
The breakfast offer is the operational point: a free hot buffet included with every rate, run from 6.30am to 9.30am on weekdays and to 10am on weekends, with omelettes, hot dishes, fresh fruit, and locally roasted coffee. The Gallery Bar is the all-day room serving Starbucks coffee and a small bar menu, the 24/7 e-bar concept covers the late-night snack gap that closing kitchens leave, and Pearl Street is 15 to 18 minutes on foot through the Boulder Creek path. Depot Square itself includes Centro Latin Kitchen, Sherpa's Adventurer's Restaurant, and several other independent dining rooms within two minutes' walk.
The indoor pool and hot tub are open year round; the 24-hour fitness centre is well-equipped with cardio and a small functional area. The 2,500 square feet of meeting space handles small corporate events. Underground parking is a flat daily rate. Service is consistent in the Hyatt Place idiom; the front-desk team handles World of Hyatt elite recognition reliably. The hotel's strongest operational point is its rate-to-product ratio: a meaningfully better room in 2024 onward than what the public posture suggests, at a rate that runs below the Boulder Marriott and the Embassy Suites for most dates.
For a trip with light meeting requirements, the Hyatt Place is the right rate for the right room. Free breakfast, fast WiFi, a workable desk in the sitting area, an indoor pool for a winter swim, and the Flatiron Flyer bus to Denver Union Station at the door. The 29th Street and Twenty Ninth Street tech offices are 10 to 15 minutes by foot.
For a Boulder family weekend on a tighter budget than the Limelight or the Embassy, the Hyatt Place double queen with the sleeper sofa sleeps four to five comfortably, the free breakfast covers the first meal, and the indoor pool runs year round. The Junction location is less central than the Marriott or the Boulderado but is well placed for the 29th Street family shopping and dining strip.
