The Hotel

Four Seasons Resort Los Cabos at Costa Palmas opened in December 2019 as the first luxury hotel on the East Cape — the sixty-mile stretch of Baja peninsula north of the San José del Cabo airport that the Cabo luxury market had largely ignored until Steve Case's Discovery Land Company committed the Costa Palmas master plan in 2014. The resort sits inside Costa Palmas, a 1,000-acre Discovery Land community that includes the Robert Trent Jones II Costa Palmas Golf Club, a 250-slip Costa Palmas Marina (the deepest-draft superyacht harbour between San Diego and Panama), the Discovery Land Company-style Beach Club, and a residential village. The Four Seasons holds the resort hotel within the master plan; villas inside the wider community are sold as fractional or whole-property real estate.

The hotel runs 141 rooms in the main resort plus 23 standalone Casitas — one- to four-bedroom Mexican-modernist beachfront villas, each with private pool, outdoor sala, and Discovery Land staff service. The architectural register is the OBM International / Hart Howerton signature for the Discovery Land Company portfolio: thick adobe-style walls, palapa roofs, breezeway courtyards, and a deliberately low-rise massing that holds the silhouette below the palm canopy. The interior brief is by Sandra Espinet — the Cabo-based designer who has done most of the higher-end Discovery Land Company interiors — in a Mexican-Mediterranean register heavy on local stone, cantera marble, and woven textiles from the Oaxaca artisans.

What distinguishes Costa Palmas operationally — and what makes the resort unmistakably the family-resort answer for the Cabo region — is the swimmable beach. The Sea of Cortés frontage at Costa Palmas runs 2.5 kilometres of warm, current-free, surfless water, in stark contrast to the Pacific-facing beaches at the Cabo San Lucas end of the peninsula (where the rip current makes most beaches non-swimmable) and the gentler-but-still-tide-affected Tourist Corridor between San José and Cabo. Costa Palmas is the only beach in the entire Cabo region warm and calm enough that a five-year-old can wade unsupervised. The resort runs three pools (a quiet adult pool, a family pool, an active social pool), a kids' club for ages four to twelve, and a teen lounge with the structure that the Discovery Land Company portfolio standardises across its US properties.

Dining runs five restaurants — Comal (the all-day breakfast and Mexican fine-dining option, on the marina-front sunset terrace), Limón (poolside Mediterranean), Estiatorio Milos (the only Costas Spirakis-operation in Mexico, the Greek seafood fine-diner that this Four Seasons added in 2023), El Roble (the East Cape steakhouse), and the Beach Club kitchens. The Estiatorio Milos addition placed the resort on the global luxury-dining map in a way that none of the original Cabo properties had managed. Activity programme is built around the marina (sport-fishing charters from the Costa Palmas slip, paddleboard, kayak), the golf course (Robert Trent Jones II's last completed Mexico course), and the wider East Cape (Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park is 30 minutes' drive — one of the most-protected coral reefs in the eastern Pacific). For a multi-generational family booking that needs the swimmable beach without compromise, a honeymoon that wants the Pacific-current problem solved, or a sport-fishing trip at the level of detail Discovery Land Company communities run, Costa Palmas is the considered Cabo answer.

Best Occasion Fit

Family Holiday

Costa Palmas is the only Cabo region beach calm enough for unsupervised young-child swimming, and the Four Seasons family programme is calibrated to that asset — a structured kids' club ages four-to-twelve, a teen lounge with PlayStation and a structured activity programme, family-bedroom Casitas with separate kids' bedrooms and a shared private pool, and the only PADI bubblemaker programme on the East Cape. Multi-generational two- or three-bedroom Casitas are the family-of-six or family-of-eight standard configuration.

Honeymoon

For a honeymoon that wants the East Cape's Sea-of-Cortés calm rather than the Pacific drama of the Cabo San Lucas peninsula, the One-Bedroom Casita with private pool and beachfront sala is the unit. The resort will arrange a private sport-fishing morning followed by a private chef ceviche-and-marlin-tartare lunch on the boat; a Costa Palmas Marina sundowner sail on the Cabo Pulmo coast; and the fourth-night private dinner in the Estiatorio Milos courtyard.
