The Hotel

Sacred House occupies a restored 1750s Greek-Cappadocian merchant mansion in central Ürgüp — one of the largest pre-1923 Greek-Orthodox houses preserved in the village — and was opened in 2010 by hotelier and antiques collector Birol Ünver as the most theatrically-decorated boutique hotel in central Anatolia. The architectural restoration preserved the original mid-18th-century stone-and-cave structure and the original Greek-Orthodox interior chapel; the interior decoration is the proposition: every room theatrically distinct, drawing on a rococo-fantasy register of velvet curtains, claw-foot copper baths, gilded mirrors, antique chandeliers, lace canopies and original 19th-century Anatolian-and-European antiques sourced individually for the property by Ünver across the restoration. The result reads as the maximalist counterweight to the Argos minimalism — a hotel that takes the heritage building as a stage set rather than as a quiet architectural background.

The 9 rooms are individually named and individually decorated — no two rooms share furniture, fabrics, or decorative scheme. Standard categories at 28 to 35 square metres include the Edgar Allan Poe Room (with the original 1750 cave-floor preserved), the Frida Kahlo Room (with original Cappadocian textile work), and the Marie Antoinette Room (with the most-photographed claw-foot copper bath in Ürgüp). The Imperial Suite at 65 square metres is the milestone unit — the original mansion's principal salon restored with a king-sized canopied four-poster, an original 18th-century Italian chandelier, and a private candlelit hammam programme. Bathrooms run the full theatrical register; bath products are local Anatolian.

Glory Bistro is the named fine-dining restaurant in the original mansion ground-floor salon, with the original 1750 stone-and-cave architecture preserved overhead — chef Engin Yıldırım runs an Anatolian-Mediterranean tasting menu programmed against the property's wine cellar. The kitchen is the strongest restaurant operating from a small Cappadocian boutique. The candlelit private hammam — a single-treatment programmed offer for couples, with a hand-pressed Cappadocian-rose oil register — is the property's signature wellness component and is the most-photographed honeymoon-and-proposal in-house experience in Ürgüp. There is no outdoor pool; the rooftop terrace handles the breakfast programme and the all-day cocktail programme.

The Ürgüp village position is the booking proposition — directly in the centre of Ürgüp, two minutes on foot from the main square, the village's restaurant axis and the artisan market. The property is more central to Ürgüp village than Kayakapı (which is on the village's edge); Göreme is 8 minutes by car east; Pigeon Valley viewpoint is 12 minutes west; Nevşehir Airport is 30 minutes; Kayseri is 50 minutes.
