"Le Corbusier designed it as a private villa. The Faraglioni rocks are 250 metres off the cliff. The view does the work no other Capri hotel has to."

The Hotel

Hotel Punta Tragara occupies a Le Corbusier-designed villa on the cliff at the end of Via Tragara, the panoramic walking street that leads from Capri Town to the Belvedere overlooking the Faraglioni rocks. Le Corbusier designed the building in 1920 as a private residence for the diplomat and art collector Émile Goeury. During the Second World War the villa served as the Allied Command headquarters in the Mediterranean — Eisenhower and Churchill both stayed during the conflict. After the war the property became a hotel under the Ceglia family, who still own and operate it three generations later.

The 44 rooms and suites include the signature Art, Monacone, Certosa, and Penthouse Suites — the higher categories all face the Faraglioni and the Bay of Marina Piccola. The architecture is Le Corbusier's recognisable angular volumes set against the Mediterranean cliff: terraces step down the rock face, the public rooms have floor-to-ceiling glass facing the rocks, and the two outdoor pools are positioned on the lower terraces to put the Faraglioni in the swimming-pool photograph that has become Punta Tragara's signature. The interiors were renovated in 2018 — sleek contemporary rather than period — preserving the volumes and views while updating the bathrooms and bedding.

Le Monzù is the on-site fine-dining restaurant, named for the migrant chefs who served the noble households of Naples in the 18th and 19th centuries. The cuisine is contemporary Mediterranean with strong Campanian roots; the open terrace looks directly onto the Faraglioni and is the most-photographed dinner setting in the property's archive. The poolside bar handles the daytime programme. The spa is small but adequate — the property's pool decks and the cliffside location are the main wellness offering. Service is consistent with a small family-owned property: warm, knowledgeable, with significant repeat clientele who return on a multi-year cycle.

The location is the property's commercial moat. Via Tragara is the most-photographed walk on the island; the Belvedere at the end of it is where most visitors take their Capri photograph. Punta Tragara is the only hotel actually on that walk, with the Faraglioni view delivered to every public room and most bedrooms. The walk to the Piazzetta is 12 minutes. The Marina Piccola beach clubs are accessible by the steep stair-path or by the path-and-bus combination. For couples whose Capri holiday is built around the Faraglioni view, Punta Tragara is the property the others reference.

Best Occasion Fit

Honeymoon

The Capri honeymoon hotel that puts the Faraglioni rocks in every photograph. Book the Monacone Suite or higher — the lower-category Art Suites face inland or have side views. Le Monzù dinner on the terrace is the night couples remember; the morning swim at the lower pool with the Faraglioni in frame is the photograph.

Proposal

The Belvedere at the end of Via Tragara — 60 seconds from the hotel — is the most photographed proposal location on the island. Punta Tragara's events team handles the orchestration with a small property's agility: photographer, florist, dinner choreography on the terrace afterwards. If you propose at the Belvedere and walk back to dinner at Le Monzù, the hotel runs the night.

Anniversary

The architectural significance and the Ceglia family's three-generation operation make this an anniversary hotel for couples who appreciate provenance. Book the Penthouse Suite for milestone anniversaries; book a Monacone Suite for everything else. The cellar at Le Monzù has the kind of Campanian wine list that rewards lingering.
