The Hotel

The castle is the property's reason for booking. The eleven Chambers are arrayed across four floors of original stone construction, each architecturally unique, with the most-requested categories holding original fireplaces, leaded glass, oak panelling, and lake-facing windows; the Tower Suite occupies the castle's turret across three storeys with a private spiral staircase, two-person whirlpool tub, and 360-degree views of the lake and the vineyards. The Vinifera Inn and White Springs Manor are competent contemporary and Federal-style products respectively, but the castle is what guests come for and where to book if at all possible.

The Castle Chambers run from 25 to 60 square metres and vary widely in layout: some hold king beds in the original stone walls, others four-poster beds in oak-panelled rooms, several feature gas fireplaces, and the tower categories step up through three floors. The Vinifera Inn rooms are 30 to 35 square metres with lake views, gas fireplaces, and double whirlpool tubs in the upper categories; White Springs Manor rooms are 25 to 35 square metres in a more traditional Federal style two miles inland on a separate parcel. All categories include complimentary continental breakfast and access to the winery tasting room.

Edgar Restaurant occupies the castle's original dining room on the ground floor and serves a classic American menu with a wine list that leans heavily on the on-site Belhurst label and the broader Finger Lakes Riesling and Cabernet Franc map; the room is the most romantic restaurant in Geneva by a clear distance, with original woodwork, leaded windows, and lake views from the corner tables. Stonecutters is the more casual room for lunch and lighter dinner. Sunday brunch in the castle is a long-running regional institution.

The on-site Belhurst winery occupies a converted carriage house behind the castle and runs daily tasting flights and a small retail room; the wines are competent rather than serious by Finger Lakes standards, but the operation is part of the property's narrative and worth a hour. The estate sits on 100 acres of lakefront and woodland with marked walking paths, a small lake beach, and direct access to Route 14 South for visits to Anthony Road, Hermann J. Wiemer, and Fox Run wineries north of the castle.

Anniversary

For an anniversary at a property that promises a castle and actually delivers one, Belhurst is the Finger Lakes booking. The Tower Suite is the right room for a milestone year (the spiral staircase, the lake views from three sides, the whirlpool tub under the turret roof); a standard Castle Chamber works for a quieter weekend. Dinner at Edgar is the natural anniversary capstone.

Proposal

If you propose at Belhurst and the answer is no, the building is not at fault. Reserve the Tower Suite, request a corner table at Edgar at sunset, and arrange a winery flight in the castle's wine room. The original tower windows facing west across Seneca Lake are the property's defining moment and the natural setting for the question.

Honeymoon

A honeymoon at Belhurst is the right choice for couples who want a fairy-tale building rather than a contemporary one. Book three to four nights in a Castle Chamber, arrange a wine country itinerary up Seneca's west side, and use the property as a base for the lakes' best Riesling producers within a 30-minute drive.
