The Hotel President Wilson opened in 1962 as the Hôtel du Président — a contemporary post-war hotel built on Quai Wilson, the lake-promenade boulevard named for the American president Woodrow Wilson, whose advocacy for the League of Nations had led to Geneva's selection as the multilateral diplomatic capital after the First World War. The property was renamed Hotel President Wilson in 1989, was acquired by Marriott's Starwood Luxury Collection portfolio in 2005, and has operated under the Marriott Luxury Collection brand since 2016 (after Marriott's Starwood acquisition). The hotel was comprehensively renovated in 2020–2022 in a programme that touched every guestroom, the public spaces, and the spa, and added the Bayview by Michel Roth restaurant programme. The headline feature — and the property's most internationally recognised distinction — is the 1,800-square-metre Royal Penthouse Suite that occupies the entire top floor.

The 230 rooms (including 79 suites) are arranged across the eight floors of the original 1962 building. Bayview by Michel Roth is the hotel's flagship restaurant — French fine dining under chef Michel Roth (Bocuse d'Or 1991, Meilleur Ouvrier de France, formerly executive chef at the Ritz Paris). The room is the eighth-floor rooftop with panoramic lake-and-Jet-d'Eau views — a reopening that has lifted the property's culinary reputation considerably since 2020. Pool Garden is the all-day terrace restaurant by the heated outdoor pool. L'Arabesque is the daytime brasserie. Glow Bar is the lobby cocktail venue. The hotel has hosted every visiting US president to the UN European headquarters since 1962, multiple G7/G20 sidebar meetings, the Geneva Summits on Russia–US relations, and the major-vendor private launches at Watches and Wonders Geneva.
