The Hotel

The Hyatt Regency Greenwich opened in 1986 on a 26-acre site in Old Greenwich, two miles east of Greenwich Avenue and 400 feet from the Old Greenwich Metro-North station. The building is the classic Hyatt Regency atrium model: 374 rooms arranged across four floors around a single skylit central court, with full-grown trees, a brook running through the lower lobby, and the original Joseph Wong-influenced glass roof. The 2023 renovation refreshed every room and the public spaces without altering the architecture; the result is the most generously scaled hotel public room in Fairfield County and an unusually pleasant interior for a property of its size.

The 374 rooms run from 320 to 410 square feet across standard categories, with king or two queen configurations, the Hyatt Grand Bed, and bathrooms with marble vanities and walk-in showers. The 32 suites add separate living rooms and the largest, the Presidential Suite, holds two bedrooms, a private dining room, and a wraparound terrace overlooking the atrium. Connecting room pairs are the largest single product category at 84 rooms, more than any other Greenwich hotel, which makes this the default booking for multi-generational family stays and for client-plus-team corporate travel.

The food and beverage operation is the largest in town: Winfield's Restaurant for breakfast and dinner, the Atrium Cafe and Bar for all-day casual dining and cocktails, in-room dining 24 hours, and Starbucks in the lobby. The cooking is the consistent Hyatt American-international standard rather than locally distinctive, but the operation is the only one in Greenwich capable of feeding a 400-person plated dinner from a single kitchen. The indoor pool, the 1,600-square-foot fitness centre, and the small Stillwater Spa run on the lower level; the spa is competent rather than destination-worthy.

The defining commercial logic of the hotel is the 30,000 square feet of meeting space across 20 rooms, including the 12,400-square-foot Connecticut Ballroom that holds 1,200 for a reception or 950 for a plated dinner. This is the largest single meeting venue between New York and Boston outside the major airport hotels, and the property keeps a dedicated 25-person sales-and-catering team for corporate and wedding work. For families, the indoor pool, the connecting rooms, the on-property Starbucks, and the parking are the reasons to book; for corporates, the meeting capacity and the airport access (LaGuardia 35 minutes, JFK 55 minutes) are the reasons.

Best Occasion Fit

Business

For meetings, this is the only Greenwich address that comfortably handles 200 or more delegates in a single room. The Connecticut Ballroom holds 950 for a plated dinner; the 19 break-out rooms cover smaller working sessions; and the dedicated catering team has run this play for thirty years. For a single executive on a one-night booking, the Regency Club Floor adds a private lounge with breakfast and evening drinks at a modest premium.

Family Holiday

For families, the Hyatt is the most practical Greenwich booking. The 84 connecting-room pairs are the largest such inventory in lower Fairfield; the indoor pool runs year-round; and the on-property dining means no need to drive at dinner. For multi-generational stays over Thanksgiving or the December holidays, the Presidential Suite plus two connecting rooms is the local equivalent of a small holiday rental for a third the cost.
