"Open since 1953 on private 110-acre peninsula. 36 rooms + 27 villas (Ralph Lauren, Truman Capote, Kennedy family owned villas here). Jamaica's grande dame."
Round Hill Hotel and Villas opened in 1953 on a private 110-acre peninsula at Round Hill on Jamaica's western coast — eight miles from Montego Bay — as Jamaica's first major luxury resort and the property that effectively introduced international luxury tourism to the island. The property was built by Sir Harold Mitchell as a co-operative residential development with luxury hotel rooms; the 27 private villas dotted across the peninsula were sold to wealthy buyers (Ralph Lauren, Truman Capote, Bill Cosby, the Kennedy family, Oscar Hammerstein, Cole Porter, Princess Margaret, and many others have owned villas at Round Hill over the property's 70+ years). The Ralph Lauren-designed restoration of the public spaces in the early 2000s gives the property its current contemporary-Jamaican-elegance aesthetic.
The 36 hotel rooms in the Pineapple House (the original 1953 main building) split between the entry-level Pineapple House Rooms (with Ralph Lauren-designed contemporary Caribbean interiors), Junior Suites with substantial private terraces, and the Suites with the larger configurations. The 27 villas (which the property rents from the absentee owners when they are not in residence) include 4-9-bedroom standalone villas with private pools, dedicated chef and butler service. Some villas have been continuously owned by the same families since the 1950s.
The grounds — the 110-acre private peninsula, the heated outdoor swimming pool, the comprehensive Spa at Round Hill, the fitness centre, the kids' programme, the equestrian centre, the multi-restaurant complex, and the 18-hole golf course access (at the adjacent Tryall Club) — make Round Hill comprehensively-equipped. The peninsula's natural beach coves and the broader Caribbean Sea frontage are the property's defining geographic features.
Dining is at multiple restaurants. Seaside Terrace is the headline contemporary Caribbean fine-dining on the peninsula's seafront. Roselle is the casual all-day. The Beach Bar is the cocktail venue. The wine programme is comprehensive. Service is the consistent property's family-and-villa-owner-network operational discipline. Round Hill Hotel and Villas is Jamaica's defining historic luxury hotel and the answer for travellers who want the 70-year-heritage private-peninsula setting.
The Jamaica anniversary at the historic Round Hill. Book a Junior Suite in the original Pineapple House. Seaside Terrace dinner; the Spa at Round Hill programme; the morning beach walks. The 1953 heritage and the celebrity-villa-owner context produce a Caribbean anniversary stay with substantial cultural depth.
The Jamaica honeymoon at the historic peninsula property. The 110-acre private setting; the Pineapple House Rooms; the Ralph Lauren-restored public spaces. Different from the larger all-inclusive Jamaica options — for couples who want the historic boutique-luxury Jamaica experience.
Round Hill's multi-bedroom villa rentals (4-9 bedrooms with private pools, chefs, butlers), the kids' programme, the equestrian centre, and the substantial peninsula setting work for multi-generational family Jamaica trips. The polished family-luxury Jamaica answer.
