The Hotel

The Andaz Ottawa opened in 2016 as a 200-room contemporary tower at the corner of Dalhousie and George, directly inside the ByWard Market historic district and four minutes on foot from the National Gallery. The architect, b+h, designed the building as a slim slab oriented north-south with a fully glazed east elevation, which gives every guest room a floor-to-ceiling window onto either Parliament Hill, the Gatineau Hills across the river, or the market itself. The lobby is set up the Andaz way as an open social room rather than a traditional check-in: a long communal table, the Feast + Revel kitchen visible through glass at one end, and a host-led check-in process that issues keys from a tablet at the table.

The 200 rooms include seven suites and run from 32 to 110 square metres. The standard categories are exceptionally well-resolved for the four-star segment: full king beds in deep walnut frames, 400 thread count cotton, blackout drapes inside sheer curtains, a sit-stand desk that the property added in the 2022 refresh, Nespresso machines, complimentary minibar (the Andaz signature), and bathrooms with rainfall showers and Aesop product. The 110 square metre Andaz Suite on the upper floors holds a corner glass living room with a 270-degree city view that includes Parliament, the river, and the Gatineau Hills in a single sweep; the proposal booking in the city is consistently from this room.

The food and beverage offer is anchored by Copper Spirits & Sights on the sixteenth floor. The bar runs from 4 PM most days with indoor and outdoor seating, a serious Canadian whisky list, and a kitchen-driven small plates menu that draws as many local visitors as hotel guests; the rooftop is the highest licensed terrace in the city and the visual from sunset onwards is the most-photographed view from any Ottawa bar. Feast + Revel on the ground floor runs a strong open-kitchen breakfast and dinner service; the lobby tap and the Sidedoor Restaurant a block away (a frequent recommendation from the front desk) complete the food map.

The business floor includes ten meeting rooms and the 5,000 square foot Studio event space on the second floor, with full audiovisual installed and a separate meeting reception. The Andaz fitness studio runs 24 hours with Peloton bikes, free weights, and yoga gear; there is no full spa, which is the single notable amenity gap at this price point. Service across the property is run on the modern Andaz model, that is, hosts rather than concierge and a flat, conversational tone that suits the design-conscious business client the hotel was built for. WiFi is enterprise grade and complimentary, parking is on the ByWard Market public lot adjacent.

Best Occasion Fit

Business

The Andaz is the contemporary business hotel of central Ottawa. The sit-stand desks, the proper window light, the 24-hour fitness studio, and the open-kitchen breakfast service are the right configuration for a two-night working trip; the Parliament-facing rooms are the productive ones in the building. The conference floor handles meetings for up to 200, and Copper Spirits is the city's most useful late-meeting drink for senior management lobbies. Book a Standard King on a Parliament side for a productive working stay.

Bachelor/Bachelorette

For an Ottawa bachelor or bachelorette weekend at the design and rooftop end of the city stock, the Andaz is the obvious booking. Copper Spirits handles the headline cocktail moment; Feast + Revel handles the late breakfast the morning after; the ByWard Market bars and Sidedoor are a two-minute walk; the Andaz Suite handles a group of six for a pre-dinner reception with the corner glass view. The hotel runs a confidential and professional group concierge service for these bookings.

Proposal

For an Ottawa proposal at the contemporary end of the city stock, the Andaz Suite on the upper floors is the answer. The corner glass living room with the 270-degree city view (Parliament, river, Gatineau Hills) is the most cinematic private room in Ottawa, and the bedroom faces the Gatineau Hills sunrise. The kitchen will plate a private four-course dinner with twenty-four hours notice, and the Copper Spirits team handles a discreet champagne reservation at the rooftop after the question.
