Sheraton Ottawa Hotel

A 231-room four-star Marriott property two blocks south of Parliament Hill, with a rare heated rooftop pool, a complete meeting floor, and the kind of operational rhythm that puts business travellers and visiting families on the same Sunday brunch floor without anyone noticing.

Business Family Holiday City Center

"Two blocks from the Hill and a heated rooftop pool: which is the rare combination of working address and good family Saturday in a city that rarely manages both. The Sheraton is what you book when the trip is doing two jobs at once."

The Hotel

The Sheraton Ottawa occupies a 21-floor 1990s tower at 150 Albert Street, on a quiet block between the Sparks Street pedestrian mall and Queen Street, a two-block walk to Parliament Hill and the Supreme Court of Canada. The location is the property's first and clearest argument: most downtown four-stars are either too far north (river side) or too far south (Lebreton Flats) to do double duty as both a working address and a family base. The Sheraton sits inside the federal precinct without sitting on its busiest streets, which is the calmer side of the same neighbourhood the Marriott and the Lord Elgin occupy.

The 231 rooms are arranged across the tower with the upper floors looking onto Parliament Hill to the north and the Gatineau Hills beyond. Standard categories run 27 to 32 square metres with a single king or two queens, the Sheraton signature bedding platform, and a flat-screen with full Marriott Bonvoy connectivity. Club-level rooms on floors 19 and 20 share a small lounge that handles continental breakfast and an evening canape service for elite tier members; the Premier corner suites add a separate sitting area and a sightline to the Peace Tower that is the visual moment of the booking.

Carleton's Restaurant runs the lobby dining room with a competent modern Canadian menu through breakfast, lunch, and dinner; the breakfast buffet handles the conference floor volume without the queueing of the larger Westin or Marriott. The Capital Bistro lounge takes over for evening drinks and a brief small-plates menu, and the property's room service runs to 11 PM. The kitchen does not chase any particular ambition; the food is reliable, the timing is good, and the breakfast bacon is the small operational detail that wins the regulars.

The hotel's signature amenity is the rooftop pool: a heated indoor pool with a glass-walled deck that doubles as the city's most unexpectedly good Saturday morning swim in February, with a view straight onto the Peace Tower. Fitness centre, sauna, and a separate whirlpool round out the wellness floor. The meeting and event floor holds ten function rooms and a 7,500-square-foot ballroom that handles federal department off-sites and the occasional medium-scale association conference. Service across the property is solid Marriott four-star: professional, organised, unobtrusive, and accustomed to the rhythm of a federal city that empties on a Friday afternoon and refills by Sunday evening.

Best Occasion Fit

Business

A solid working booking, particularly for an off-site or a multi-day briefing that needs ten break-out rooms and a plenary. The address is closer to Parliament Hill than the Marriott by one block; the club lounge handles a quiet working breakfast; the function floor is well-run. Corporate rates negotiate well through Marriott Global Sales, and the Carleton breakfast room is large enough to handle a working table for ten without taking over a side room.

Family Holiday

The strongest mid-price family booking in central Ottawa. The two-queen rooms accommodate a family of four comfortably; the rooftop pool is the daily anchor a winter weekend in Ottawa needs; the location puts you within walking distance of the Parliament, the National Gallery, the Bank of Canada Museum, and the Rideau Canal Skateway in season. Sheraton's Club-level can be worth the upgrade for a longer family stay if breakfast for four matters to the math.
