Martin Brudnizki's first Paris hotel — 73 rooms inside the restored 1920s former L'Imaginaire d'Émile-Bayard pavilion at 24 rue Cadet 75009, opened June 2023 by Leitmotiv Hôtels with restaurant Golden Poppy by Dominique Crenn and a rooftop bar that finds Sacré-Cœur exactly where it should be.
"Martin Brudnizki's first Paris room — and the most committed botanical-maximalist hotel project in the city. Dominique Crenn at the restaurant, the only south-facing rooftop bar in the 9th, and a Garden Suite with private terrace that nothing in central Paris under €1,500 can answer."
La Fantaisie opened on 28 June 2023 as the flagship property of Leitmotiv Hôtels, the small Paris hospitality group of Slim Aarons-collector and former media-rights operator Olivier Bertrand. The building at 24 rue Cadet 75009 was previously a 1920s commercial / residential block; the conversion was undertaken by Petit Didier Prioux Architectes and the interiors entrusted to Martin Brudnizki Design Studio — the London-based studio responsible for Annabel's, Scott's, the Beekman New York, and the redesign of the Connaught Bar. La Fantaisie is Brudnizki's first Paris hotel project. The hotel is a member of the MICHELIN Guide hotel collection (2024 listing) and an American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts property.
Seventy-three rooms across seven floors run from Studios at 18 square metres up through Junior Suites, Premium Suites, and the headline Garden Suite at 65 square metres with a private 30-square-metre planted terrace. Brudnizki's interior register at La Fantaisie is botanical-maximalist: hand-painted forest wallpapers, bespoke green-velvet headboards, brass and bottle-glass lamps, terracotta-and-emerald carpet specifically commissioned, and bathrooms in pale-green Cipollino marble. Every room carries a small embroidered Cadet-emblem cushion. The Garden Suites and Premium Suites with terrace are the rooms that move first — book six to eight weeks ahead.
Restaurant Golden Poppy is the food strongest argument. Opened with the hotel under Dominique Crenn — the San Francisco three-Michelin-star chef of Atelier Crenn, the first female chef in the United States to hold three stars — the restaurant operates under chef de cuisine Rodney Wages with a contemporary Californian-French menu. The hotel's bar is on the rooftop: Brudnizki-designed conservatory-glass canopy, retractable in summer, the only south-facing serious cocktail rooftop in the 9th arrondissement, with a 270-degree view that finds Sacré-Cœur to the north and the Opéra Garnier to the southeast. The basement holds a 14-metre indoor lap pool, hammam, sauna, and a four-treatment-room spa with custom Codage products.
The position is the 9th arrondissement's "central village" — Cadet metro (line 7) is sixty seconds, Le Peletier metro (line 7) is two minutes, Galeries Lafayette is six minutes on foot, the Opéra Garnier is eight minutes, Pigalle and the climb to Sacré-Cœur are eight minutes, the Marché Cadet morning food market is ninety seconds. Travellers who want a contemporary Paris five-star with a serious chef and a rooftop bar — without paying full Faubourg-Saint-Honoré rates — will find La Fantaisie the right answer. The 9th-arr postcode is half the Plaza Athénée tariff and twice the design-press attention.
A Paris honeymoon for travellers who want contemporary 5-star design rather than palace hotel theatre. The Garden Suite with private terrace is the central booking; Golden Poppy at dinner is the city's most decorated 2023 opening; the rooftop at sunset finds Sacré-Cœur where it should be; the indoor pool handles the morning. The price-against-product against any 8th-arr palace is dramatic.
A milestone anniversary that wants a serious 2023-vintage Paris room rather than a refurbished 19th-century one. The Premium Suite with terrace is the booking; Golden Poppy for the dinner; the spa programme handles the morning of the second day. The hotel will arrange a private dinner on the rooftop bar after public hours by request — the most photographable anniversary moment in central Paris.
The 14-metre indoor lap pool — rare in central Paris hotels at this room count — paired with the hammam, sauna, four treatment rooms, and Codage product partnership makes La Fantaisie the strongest contemporary 9th-arr wellness option. Combine with Golden Poppy's seasonal-vegetable lunch menu and the morning Marché Cadet food shop two minutes from the door for a calm three-night programme.
