Goldener Hirsch, Auberge Collection

Auberge Collection's Bavarian-inspired ski-in/ski-out inn at Silver Lake Village mid-mountain Deer Valley — 64 rooms across three buildings, Tom Kundig-designed residences alongside the original 1992 inn, and the gemütlich evening cadence Park City otherwise lacks.

"Bavarian gemütlich at Silver Lake. Auberge service, Tom Kundig residences, and the only Park City address that runs European in cadence rather than American."

The Hotel

Goldener Hirsch was originally built in 1992 at Silver Lake Village — the mid-mountain Deer Valley pocket between Empire Pass and Snow Park — by an Austrian-Utah ownership group who modelled the property explicitly on the Goldener Hirsch hotel in Salzburg. The inn passed through several ownership cycles before joining Auberge Resorts Collection (Auberge du Soleil's parent company) in 2018, when Auberge undertook a significant renovation programme and added the new Goldener residences component. The result is a property that runs the original Bavarian-inspired 1992 inn (twenty rooms in the heritage building) and the contemporary Tom Kundig-designed residences (forty-four rooms across two newer buildings) as a single 64-key property under one Auberge management team.

The inventory breaks down across three buildings: the original Inn (twenty rooms — 8 Standard, 8 Junior Suites, 2 Inn Suites, 1 Goldener Two-Bedroom Residence King ADA, 1 ADA-accessible) and the two new Goldener buildings (44 rooms — 9 Goldener Rooms with King Bed, 7 Goldener Balcony Rooms, 3 Two-Queen Rooms, 9 Goldener Suites, 2 Goldener One-Bedroom Residences, 15 Goldener Two-Bedroom Residences). The Goldener buildings — Tom Kundig at Olson Kundig with Bavarian-modernist references — handle the contemporary inventory with stone fireplaces, in-suite kitchens, and slope-facing balconies. The original Inn rooms run smaller and more atmospheric, with hand-painted Bavarian alpine murals and dark wood interiors.

The on-site restaurant — itself called the Goldener Hirsch Restaurant — runs a contemporary American kitchen with strong Austrian-influenced touches (the schnitzel and the apfelstrudel are heritage menu items maintained across ownership cycles); the Schatzi Bar handles the all-day pour and après-ski. There is no full spa on-site (treatments arrange via the Stein Eriksen Spa next door, by walk-in or via the lodge's complimentary Silver Lake Village shuttle). The amenity programme is deliberately tight — Goldener's brief is gemütlich evening atmosphere, Auberge service, and the Bavarian-flag programming, not resort-volume amenity stack.

The position is exceptional. The Silver Lake Express lift is sixty seconds on foot from the property's ski-storage; Stein Eriksen Lodge is across the village square (Goldener guests get partial Stein Eriksen Spa access); the entire Deer Valley terrain network is skiable from the lobby. Park City Main Street is five minutes by car (a complimentary house car runs through the day); Salt Lake City International is forty-five minutes. For honeymoons, anniversaries, and small family ski weeks that want mid-mountain access, boutique scale (64 keys against Stein Eriksen's 180 and Montage's 220), Auberge service standards, and the Bavarian programming, Goldener Hirsch is the answer.

Best Occasion Fit

Honeymoon

For Park City honeymoons at the boutique tier, Goldener Hirsch's Inn Junior Suites or the Tom Kundig Goldener Suites are the rooms to target. Bavarian heritage atmosphere in the original building, contemporary stone-fireplace luxury in the Goldener buildings — both at the same Silver Lake mid-mountain address. Goldener Hirsch Restaurant for the dinner; Stein Eriksen Spa across the square for the morning programme; mid-mountain quiet through the evening.

Anniversary

Anniversaries here run on the same vocabulary as the honeymoon brief, calibrated to the milestone. The Goldener Two-Bedroom Residences with full kitchens and direct ski-out balconies are the room category for longer milestone weeks; the Goldener One-Bedroom Residences for shorter stays. Schatzi Bar for the post-dinner pour; the Silver Lake Village Sunday brunch programme runs across multiple properties.

Family Holiday

Goldener's Two-Bedroom Residences (15 in the inventory) are the property's family-week anchor — full kitchens, Tom Kundig contemporary finishes, dedicated kids' rooms, and ski-in/ski-out at Silver Lake Express. The 64-room footprint keeps the property genuinely small in scale, which families with children appreciate; the Stein Eriksen Spa kids' programme and the village's children's ski school operate adjacent.
