Le Palais Art Hotel Prague

A 72-room boutique five-star in a restored 1841 Belle Époque palace in residential Vinohrady — original Ludek Marold and Vladimir Voljakovsky frescoes preserved in place, the Artista restaurant on the ground floor, and the only true Vinohrady five-star at boutique scale.

"The address for guests who would rather live like a Praguer in the leafy garden squares of Vinohrady than visit the centre as a tourist — a 19th-century palace with original ceiling frescoes intact, twelve minutes by tram from the Old Town."

The Hotel

Le Palais Art Hotel occupies the fully restored 1841 mansion at U Zvonařky 1, on the eastern edge of Vinohrady, the most architecturally complete Belle Époque residential district in Prague. The mansion was built in the mid-19th century in a French neo-Baroque idiom, was extended in 1897, and was the home of the Czech painter Luděk Marold (1865–1898) for the last years of his life — Marold's panoramic painting of the Battle of Lipany is the largest painting in the Czech Republic and is exhibited in a dedicated rotunda at Výstaviště. The frescoes Marold and his contemporary Vladimír Voljakovský painted in the building's principal rooms have been preserved in situ through the property's 2002 restoration and 2018 refurbishment under family ownership and remain visible in the Lobby, the Artista Restaurant ceiling and the first-floor Suite corridor.

The 72 rooms are arranged across the building's four floors. The signature is the calibrated balance between the preserved 19th-century shell (original parquet floors, restored stucco, ceiling roses, period bay windows) and the contemporary five-star fitting (climate-controlled marble bathrooms, room-by-room sound insulation, Italian linens). Standard categories run from 22 square metres (Standard Doubles) to 35 square metres (Deluxe Rooms) to 55 to 75 square metres (Luxury Suites). The Royal Suite is the headline unit at 110 square metres on the top floor with views across the rooftops to the Vyšehrad spires. Suites with original frescoes are designated as Heritage Suites and book separately. Bathrooms throughout are Italian marble; some rooms preserve original 19th-century cast-iron radiators converted to contemporary heating.

Dining and amenities are anchored by the Artista Restaurant — a French-Czech kitchen on the ground floor with a preserved Marold ceiling fresco and a small terrace facing the residential garden square. Artista runs three meal services (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and is the most carefully considered hotel restaurant in Vinohrady. The Lobby Bar — an oak-and-marble small bar in the original entrance hall — is the social room. The wellness centre on the lower ground includes a 12-metre indoor lap pool (the only Vinohrady hotel pool), a Finnish sauna, a fully equipped fitness room, a steam bath, and three spa-treatment rooms. Massage and aesthetic treatments run on a six-day-a-week schedule with five practitioners.

Position is the third proposition. U Zvonařky places the hotel on a quiet residential street in southern Vinohrady — three minutes' walk from Riegrovy Sady (the largest park in Vinohrady), four from the Náměstí Míru tram interchange, eight from the National Museum at the upper end of Wenceslas Square, twelve to fifteen minutes by tram to the Old Town Square or the Powder Tower. The address is residential rather than tourist-trafficked. For solo travellers who want a more authentic Prague experience than the Old Town hotels can offer, an extended-stay anniversary or a wellness retreat where the spa and pool are central, or a discreet stay where the property is the destination and the centre is a tram-ride away, Le Palais is the most rewarding Vinohrady answer.

Best Occasion Fit

Solo Retreat

For a Prague solo retreat where the brief is residential rather than tourist — Riegrovy Sady's morning walks, the Vinohrady cafés, the residential tram instead of the Old Town crowd — Le Palais is the strongest answer in the city. Standard Doubles at the entry rate are well below the Old Town five-stars; the 12-metre pool runs as a private treatment room outside peak hours. The Artista's solo cover is handled with the same care as the couple's table.

Anniversary

An anniversary built around the Vinohrady residential idiom rather than the Old Town pageant — the Heritage Suites with their preserved frescoes for the room, Artista for dinner, the morning walk through Riegrovy Sady. The Royal Suite for the milestone version. Strong value relative to the Mala Strana five-stars.

Wellness Retreat

For a Prague wellness booking, Le Palais has the city's most considered Vinohrady spa programme — 12-metre lap pool, sauna, steam, three treatment rooms, full-day treatment plans available. Combined with the residential Vinohrady walking and the smaller social volume than any Old Town hotel, the property handles a four-to-five-night decompression brief well.
