The Hotel

La Posada de Santa Fe sits on a six-acre walking estate two blocks east of the Plaza, built around the 1882 Italianate mansion that German-Jewish merchant Abraham Staab commissioned for his family at 330 East Palace Avenue. The Staab mansion is the centre of the property — the original 22-room residence is now the property's main lobby, the Julia restaurant, and the Staab House meeting and event spaces — and the surrounding six acres hold a hundred-and-thirty-five additional keys spread across a deliberately landscaped network of casita-style buildings and connecting garden walks. La Posada operated as the Staab House Hotel from 1936 through 2010 and has run as a Marriott Tribute Portfolio Resort & Spa since 2010.

The property holds Santa Fe's most-famous heritage ghost. Julia Staab died in 1896 in an upper-floor bedroom of the mansion (now the Julia Suite, available for booking) and the building has been at the centre of the city's haunted-Santa-Fe tour industry for sixty years. The mansion's historical fabric has been preserved through every restoration — the original carved-mahogany staircase, the period-furniture parlour, the 1882 Lloyd Jones-painted ceilings, the original kitchen-and-dining-room block — and Marriott's 2010-2012 restoration brief committed to keeping the Staab residence's interior at the highest preservation standard while restoring the surrounding casita network for contemporary luxury accommodation.

Operationally La Posada runs the Tribute Portfolio register at the largest scale in the city. Julia Restaurant — the in-house fine-dining venue inside the original mansion — runs the New Mexican-Mediterranean tasting register that the kitchen has held since 2010. The Staab House Bar in the original drawing room runs a 75-bottle agave programme. The Spa La Posada runs ten treatment rooms in a separate adobe pavilion with structured Native American smudge-and-stone treatments. The two outdoor pools (one quiet adult, one family) and the children's pool wing make La Posada one of the only Santa Fe luxury hotels with multi-pool family infrastructure inside the city walking radius.

The structural distinction is the Plaza-walkable historic-and-resort scale. La Posada is the only Santa Fe luxury property that combines the heritage interior of the Staab mansion (the city's most-historic luxury hotel interior, structurally), the Plaza-walking distance (10 minutes on foot, free shuttle every 15 minutes), and the family-resort infrastructure (multi-pool, kids' pool, casita configurations, multi-bedroom suites). The 157-key footprint is substantially larger than Anasazi or Five Graces — meaning the property reads more as a city-resort than a small-luxury boutique. For an anniversary that wants the Julia Staab heritage register at a more accessible rate point, a multi-generational family stay that needs Plaza walking distance and pool infrastructure, or a Tribute Portfolio Marriott Bonvoy guest who wants the Plaza heritage trade-off without the Anasazi or Five Graces rate card, La Posada is the most-considered choice.

Best Occasion Fit

Anniversary

The Julia Suite — the upper-floor room of the original Staab mansion where Julia Staab died in 1896 — is the milestone unit at La Posada. Anniversary stays are typically structured around two nights with a private Julia Restaurant tasting-menu evening, a private Staab Bar agave-and-mezcal flight, and a property-history walking tour with the in-house heritage manager (the only Santa Fe hotel with a dedicated history-programme staff member).

Family Holiday

La Posada is the most-considered Santa Fe family-holiday option inside the Plaza-walkable district. The two-pool configuration (quiet adult pool, family pool with children's slide), the dedicated children's pool wing, the multi-bedroom casitas, and the free 15-minute Plaza shuttle make the property workable for a family-of-four-or-six on a Plaza-and-Canyon-Road walking itinerary. Multi-generational two-couple bookings work well in the suite-and-casita combinations.
