Twenty-three casitas at the mouth of a vortex canyon. Three-, four-, and seven-night journeys, fully inclusive. America's most considered wellness retreat.
"Twenty-three casitas, three- to seven-night journeys, all-inclusive. The only American destination spa that genuinely competes with Europe's best — and the rare property where transformation is the point, not the marketing."
Mii amo reopened in February 2023 after a two-year, $40 million reimagination — the most ambitious redesign of any American destination spa in a generation. The property occupies its own walled compound within the grounds of Enchantment Resort, set against the red sandstone walls at the head of Boynton Canyon. The Yavapai-Apache consider this canyon sacred ground; one of Sedona's four named energy vortexes sits within walking distance of the property; and the silence here, especially at dawn before the breeze starts in the cottonwoods, is genuinely unlike anywhere else in the American Southwest.
The property comprises twenty-three casitas across two clusters — adults-only, all-inclusive, and bound by a strict three-night minimum stay. Most guests book the standard three-night journey, the four-night journey, or the seven-night signature journey; rates begin at $1,400 per person per night and include accommodation, three meals daily at Hummingbird, two spa or wellness treatments per day, all classes and activities, and unlimited use of the pools, gym, and grounds. The casitas themselves were rebuilt during the reimagination — earth-toned interiors, indoor-outdoor showers, private patios oriented toward the canyon walls, and a deliberate absence of televisions. The point is to be elsewhere.
The Crystal Grotto is the property's signature space and the conceptual heart of the journey. A circular meditation chamber lit by a single oculus, the Grotto holds private intention-setting ceremonies at the start of each guest's stay — a practice that sounds soft on paper and reads as essential by the second day. The spa programme itself is Forbes Five-Star and AAA Five Diamond rated — a combination held by fewer than a dozen American spas — and the treatment menu blends standard luxury modalities with sweat lodge sessions, sound healing, energy work, astrology readings, and Watsu in a private aquatic studio. Guests are matched with a wellness guide on arrival who builds a custom programme around the journey's stated theme.
Hummingbird, the resort's only restaurant, replaced the original dining room in the 2023 rebuild and is the most important upgrade of the entire reimagination. The kitchen serves three meals daily, all included, all designed around what guests are doing the rest of the day — light and protein-forward at breakfast, rooted in the desert at dinner, generous with desert botanicals throughout. The wine list is selective rather than encyclopaedic, and the dining room itself opens onto a patio facing the canyon walls. There is no second restaurant on property, and there does not need to be. Most guests eat alone or with whomever they came with, and the room is arranged to make either feel comfortable.
Mii amo guests have full access to neighbouring Enchantment Resort — its restaurants, its hiking guides, its tennis courts, and its trail network — but most of the journey unfolds inside the Mii amo gate. The team operates on first-name terms by the second morning. The wellness guides remember what you said in your intention-setting ceremony, and they design the rest of the week around it. This is not a hotel that performs hospitality; it is a property that has been engineered around what people actually come to a destination spa hoping to experience, and almost never receive elsewhere.
This is the wellness journey other American destination spas are measured against. The seven-night signature journey is the right length for genuine transformation — long enough that the body reset moves from intellectual to physiological, short enough that the structure remains a holiday rather than a retreat. Pick a theme on booking — De-Stress, Inner Quest, Best of Mii amo, or Spiritual Exploration — and the wellness guides will build the entire programme around it. Two treatments daily, classes morning and afternoon, and the Crystal Grotto ceremony as both bookends.
Mii amo is unusually well-designed for solo travellers — the dining room is arranged to make a single seating feel as natural as a couple, classes are constructed around shared experience rather than couple dynamics, and the wellness guide structure means you are never genuinely alone with a question. Most journeys run 30-40% solo guests, and the property has built that calibration into everything from room categories (genuine single rates rather than penalty-priced doubles) to the cadence of group activities. The three-night journey is the entry point. Expect to want the seven by the end.
For honeymooners who want a wellness honeymoon rather than a beach honeymoon, Mii amo is the American answer. The adults-only, three-night minimum, all-inclusive structure removes most of what couples ordinarily have to negotiate during a honeymoon — no menus, no logistics, no decisions beyond which treatment at three. Couples treatments in shared rooms are standard. The Crystal Grotto can host a private ceremony for two on arrival night. Pair Mii amo with two or three nights at L'Auberge afterward to balance retreat and romance.
