The Hotel

Mango House Seychelles opened on 1 December 2021 as Hilton's first Indian Ocean property under the LXR Hotels & Resorts brand — built on the former 7-hectare clifftop estate of the late Italian fashion photographer Gian Paolo Barbieri (1935-2024), who had spent winters at the property from 1991 onwards as his personal Indian Ocean retreat. Hilton acquired the estate from the Barbieri family in 2017 and conducted a comprehensive 4-year design-and-construction programme to convert the property to a 41-room boutique while preserving the photographer's principal residence (now the property's lobby and signature Library Bar) and integrating Barbieri's photographic archive (a 200-piece collection of original prints from his 1970s-2010s career, on loan from the Gian Paolo Barbieri Foundation in Milan) as the property's principal interior decoration. The architectural commission for the restoration was Atelier Pod with interior architecture by Studio Glitt of Milan; the building reads as a contemporary Italian-Mediterranean reinterpretation of traditional Seychellois Creole architecture.

The 41 rooms — including 5 named suites — are arranged across the original estate's principal residence (8 Heritage rooms with restored 1990s Barbieri-period furnishings) and the contemporary villa wings (33 contemporary rooms in the 2018-2021 architectural addition). Standard categories at 50 sqm include the original-Barbieri-photograph-on-the-wall programming; the named Barbieri Suite at 110 sqm in the original residence is the milestone unit, with the photographer's preserved bedroom and a private terrace overlooking Anse aux Poules Bleues. Bathrooms are travertine; bath products are Acqua di Parma.

Moutya is the principal restaurant — a contemporary Seychellois-Italian register opened with the hotel in the original 1990s Barbieri dining room, with the photographer's archive of Italian-Seychellois food photography preserved on the walls. Buddha Sky is the Pan-Asian fine-dining; The Bar handles the lobby cocktail-and-aperitivo programme; the cellar wine bar runs the Italian-and-South-African verticals tasting programme. The three outdoor pools (the cliff-edge infinity pool — the property's signature image, the family pool, the adults-only Sunset Pool with the Barbieri-curated photo-book library), the Spa with five treatment rooms, and the Watersports Centre on Anse aux Poules Bleues complete the wellness layer.

The Anse aux Poules Bleues address is on the south-western Mahé coast — 30 minutes by car from Seychelles International Airport (SEZ), 20 minutes from Beau Vallon, 18 minutes from Four Seasons Petite Anse, and 10 minutes from Anse Soleil (the most-recommended Mahé snorkelling beach).
