Fourteen heritage shophouses stitched into a Six Senses. Pat Jouin interiors.
"Opened February 2018 inside fourteen connected heritage shophouses on Cook Street in Tanjong Pagar — the first Six Senses urban hotel anywhere in the world and the property that defined the brand's city template. Patrick Jouin interiors, 138 keys, no two rooms alike."
Six Senses Maxwell opened in February 2018 inside fourteen connected 19th-century shophouses on Cook Street in Tanjong Pagar — and was, by deliberate Six Senses design, the brand's first urban hotel anywhere in the world. Until 2018, Six Senses had been an exclusively resort brand: Soneva Fushi, Six Senses Yao Noi, Six Senses Ninh Van Bay. Singapore was the test of whether the brand's Asian-resort-template could translate to a city. Eight years later, the property has, by repeat-traveller and industry consensus, succeeded — and has been the template for the Six Senses urban brand expansion to London (2023), Rome (2023), Istanbul (2024), and Crans-Montana (2026).
There are 138 rooms across the fourteen connected shophouses — no two rooms alike, every room shaped by the original 19th-century shophouse architecture. Patrick Jouin (the French designer responsible for Alain Ducasse's restaurants and the Eurostar interiors) handled every room individually: the smaller Premier rooms (28 sqm) sit inside the upper floors of the shophouses, with original timber roof beams; the Maxwell Suite (60 sqm) occupies an entire shophouse second floor with a private courtyard; the Six Senses Suite (90 sqm) has its own private rooftop terrace. Every room has the brand-signature Six Senses bath programme, the wellness-tea sequence, and the in-room sleep-tracking technology.
Cook & Tras, the resort's restaurant on the lobby level, runs a deliberately precise Singaporean-modern menu — the most considered in Tanjong Pagar. The Garden, the resort's secret rooftop bar, is a quiet alternative to the rooftop-bar circuit elsewhere in the city. The Six Senses Spa, on the resort's third floor, runs the brand's signature wellness programme — Chinese medicine consultations, sound healing, sleep tracking, and a bespoke biohacking sequence designed for urban guests on three- to five-night stays. Maxwell Reserve, the resort's quiet ground-floor library bar, runs the city's most-considered single-malt programme.
What separates Six Senses Maxwell, in 2026, is the singular calibration of resort-grade wellness inside an urban heritage architecture context. The 138-key footprint means the property never feels crowded; the Patrick Jouin individual-room design means no two stays are alike; the Tanjong Pagar location — fifteen minutes from Marina Bay, twenty from Orchard Road, but inside the city's most preserved shophouse district — means the stay feels like a resort retreat hidden in central Singapore. For a serious solo working stay, a wellness-led urban Singapore week, or a discreet design-led business trip, this is the considered alternative to Singapore's larger five-stars.
The most considered solo-traveller hotel in Singapore — Tanjong Pagar MRT is two minutes' walk, the rooms are individually designed by Patrick Jouin, and the Six Senses urban-wellness programme is the most considered city-resort wellness package in the country. The Maxwell Reserve library bar is the considered evening solo room; the rooftop pool opens at 06:00 for early-morning guests.
The Six Senses Singapore Reset programme — three nights of sleep-tracking, a biomarkers consult, daily meditation, sound healing, and a closing TCM consultation — is the most considered urban wellness package in Singapore. Pair with three nights at the brand's Soneva Fushi or Six Senses Bhutan for a regional brand-loyal wellness honeymoon.
Tanjong Pagar MRT is two minutes; the Marina Bay Financial Centre is six by Grab. The Maxwell Suite has a private courtyard convertible to an 8-seat dinner setting. The Six Senses Spa's biohacking sequence is the considered same-day service for jet-lagged executives.
