The Hotel

Hôtel Byblos opened in 1967 at 20 Avenue Paul Signac in the heart of St-Tropez town. The story is part of the town's mythology: Lebanese businessman Jean-Prosper Gay-Para conceived the property as a tribute to the ancient Phoenician city of Byblos, with architect Charles Wenger drawing on a recreated Mediterranean village rather than a single hotel building. The property opened with a private concert by Mireille Mathieu, attracted Brigitte Bardot, Mick Jagger, and the entire 1960s creative class within its first season, and effectively defined the luxury St-Tropez category. The Chevanne family acquired the property and has owned and operated it ever since; current managing direction sits with Antoine Chevanne, third-generation.

The 91 rooms and suites — including 50 suites — are distributed across the village's interconnected buildings, every one individually decorated in a Provençal palette: terracotta, ochre, dusty blues, antique furniture, vintage textiles, and small details that vary room to room. The recent renovation cycles have refreshed the rooms while preserving the period character — modernity has been added through bedding and bathrooms rather than through reimagining the décor. Categories include Classic and Superior rooms, Junior Suites, Suites, and the larger signature suites with private terraces and pool views.

The dining and nightlife programme is the property's other distinction. Cucina by chef Alain Ducasse handles the formal Italian-Mediterranean dinner at the central courtyard. Rivea by Ducasse runs the casual brasserie. The Byblos Sunset Bar handles the early-evening cocktail programme. Les Caves du Roy — the legendary nightclub at 27 Avenue du Maréchal Foch, integrated with the property — has been the most copied club in the world since 1967: red velvet booths, capacity 540, open until 5 AM in summer, the kind of place where champagne goes by the magnum and the music still leans heavily on disco-era programming. Hotel guests get reservation priority. The Sisley Spa with seven treatment rooms, two pools, and the on-site fitness room handle the daytime wellness programme.

The town-centre location at the foot of Avenue Paul Signac places the property a 5-minute walk from the Vieux Port, Place des Lices, and the citadel. The full St-Tropez town shopping circuit (Hermès, Dior, Saint Laurent) is two minutes away. Pampelonne beach is a 15-minute taxi or by complimentary shuttle to the Byblos beach club. For couples and groups whose St-Tropez trip is built around the town's social scene rather than retreat, Byblos remains the property other St-Tropez hotels reference. The 91-room scale and the Caves du Roy adjacency make this the loudest of the major St-Tropez five-stars; the energy is the point, not a flaw.

Best Occasion Fit

Bachelor/Bachelorette

The St-Tropez bachelor/bachelorette flagship. Les Caves du Roy is the magnet; the Sunset Bar, Cucina dinner, and the property's beach club shuttle handle the days. Junior Suites work for groups of four or six; the larger signature suites accommodate group accommodation. Confirm dress code at booking — the club takes it seriously.

Anniversary

An anniversary at the property that defined St-Tropez. The Cucina dinner with Ducasse cuisine, the Byblos courtyard at sunset, and an after-dinner Caves du Roy session are the three anchors. The signature suites with private terrace and pool view are the right room for milestone-anniversary stays.

Honeymoon

For honeymooners who want the historic-Saint-Tropez version with all the social energy that implies. The Sisley Spa, the morning at the pool, the Pampelonne shuttle, and the evening at Cucina cover a high-density honeymoon. Couples who want quiet should book Cheval Blanc or La Réserve Ramatuelle instead.
