About The Beach House

The Wickaninnish Inn is one property in two buildings, and choosing between them is the small, pleasant problem every Wick guest gets to solve. The Pointe — the original 1996 building on the rocky promontory — is the heavier, older, more theatrical of the two. The Beach House, opened in 2003 as the sister property, sits a short walk down the beach in a quieter, lower stretch of Chesterman, and it is the building couples increasingly ask for first.

The Beach House has 30 rooms across three storeys, and the architecture is the most obvious distinction from the Pointe. Where the original building leans into massive timber, exposed beams, and a slightly fortress-like silhouette suited to its windswept point, the Beach House is cleaner, lighter, and more contemporary. Cedar still dominates — this is Tofino — but the lines are simpler, the windows larger, and the rooms feel meaningfully brighter on the grey mornings that define this coast nine months a year.

The defining design choice is the balcony. Almost every Beach House room has a private oceanfront balcony, and the rooms are arranged so the bed faces the water directly. In November, when the storms arrive and rain is moving sideways across the cove, you do not have to leave the duvet to watch the Pacific do what it came to do. This is storm-watching as the property's founding family imagined it — not from a public lounge, but from your own room, with your own coffee, in your own silence. For couples, that privacy is the point.

Everything else is shared with the Pointe. Ancient Cedars Spa, the on-property spa carved into a rocky outcrop above the beach, is open to all Wick guests and is genuinely one of the best spa settings in Canada. The Pointe Restaurant, On the Rocks lounge, beach access, the trail along Chesterman, and the in-room dining menu all flow between the two buildings without ceremony. Guests of the Beach House can walk the five minutes to the Pointe for dinner and back through the trees afterwards; staff handle the logistics so you don't notice them.

Why some couples prefer the Beach House over the Pointe comes down to mood. The Pointe is dramatic — exposed, elevated, slightly cinematic. The Beach House is calmer — set back, lighter, more private, and closer to the sand. Honeymooners who want to spend most of their time in the room tend to choose the Beach House. Couples who want the iconic storm-watching photograph tend to choose the Pointe. Both are correct. The one-property-two-buildings model means you don't have to decide between Wickaninnish service and a quieter aesthetic. You can have both.

Best Occasion Fit

Honeymoon

For couples who want a honeymoon that does not require a city, the Beach House is among the strongest answers in Canada. Bed facing the Pacific, balcony for breakfast, Ancient Cedars Spa five minutes through the trees, dinner at The Pointe, the long emptiness of Chesterman at low tide. The Wick concierge will arrange a private surf lesson, a storm-watching package, or a beach picnic with twenty-four hours' notice. Nothing about the rhythm here pushes you to leave the room.

Anniversary

Returning couples find the Beach House the easier of the two buildings to settle into for a longer stay. The contemporary lines age more gracefully than heavy timber, the rooms are lighter on a fifth or tenth visit, and the staff at Ancient Cedars remember treatment preferences across years. For a milestone anniversary, request a top-floor corner room on the south side — the view runs the length of Chesterman to Frank Island, and the sunsets through November earn the trip on their own.

Proposal

For a proposal that does not need a maître d', the Beach House delivers what the Pointe sometimes makes too public. Brief the concierge in advance and they will set up champagne on the private balcony at golden hour, or arrange a small fire and blankets on the sand below the property at low tide. Chesterman Beach in October at 5pm, with the rain holding off and the light turning copper, requires no further engineering. The ring goes in the pocket; the beach does the rest.
