The Hotel

Palazzo Venart occupies Palazzo Bacchini delle Palme, a 15th-century Grand Canal palazzo in the Santa Croce sestiere, ten minutes' walk from the Rialto Bridge and away from the densest tourist routes of San Marco. The building has a layered Venetian history — initially owned by the Lion family, later the Vernier family — and in the fifteenth century it served as the residence of the mercenary captain Pandolfo Malatesta, lord of Rimini and patron of the arts. It later became the home of his daughter Adele, who married Lieutenant-Colonel Edmondo Bacchini delle Palme, whose family arms still hang in the salon and who give the palazzo its present formal name. After decades of neglect and decay through the late twentieth century, the building was acquired by the Taiwanese hospitality group LDC Hotels Italy and emerged from a comprehensive multi-year restoration in August 2016 as Palazzo Venart Luxury Hotel.

The 17 keys are arranged across the palazzo's three principal floors, each room individually conceived and decorated as a reinterpretation of the eighteenth-century Venetian noble interior — Murano glass chandeliers, restored stuccoes, hand-stencilled wall finishes, antique furniture combined with bespoke contemporary pieces, and Venetian-craftsman fabrics in saturated period colours. Standard categories run small (around 25 square metres) but the Junior Suites and the named Grand Canal Suites — particularly the Doge Suite and the Lion Suite — are the property's headline categories with direct Grand Canal frontage and 35–55 square-metre footprints. Bathrooms are Carrara marble; the hotel-curated minibar and the sleep-programme bedding are house standards. Free Wi-Fi throughout.

The most decorated facility is Glam Enrico Bartolini — the only Venice restaurant currently holding two Michelin stars (the original Bartolini Glam first earned its second star in 2019 and has retained both stars continuously since). The kitchen sits in the original ground-floor salone overlooking the Grand Canal and is the in-house dining room for residents — Bartolini directs the menu philosophy and Resident Chef Donato Ascani runs the working kitchen with a contemporary Venetian-Mediterranean approach. The wine list is among the deeper Venetian cellars at the boutique-hotel scale. Aperitivo is served on the small private terrace directly on the Grand Canal — among the most theatrical pre-dinner settings in the city.

The defining differentiator is the courtyard garden — an enclosed private green space behind the palazzo that almost no other Venetian luxury hotel can match (the city's water-and-stone footprint generally precludes proper hotel gardens). Breakfast in summer is served in the courtyard or on the Grand Canal terrace; the garden is also used for private aperitivo and small wedding ceremonies. Service is highly personalised at the seventeen-key inventory; the property has no traditional concierge desk, with every guest interaction running through the front-of-house team in the salone. Leading Hotels of the World; Forbes Travel Guide. The right answer for the Venice booking that wants the Grand Canal frontage, the historic palazzo bones, the two-Michelin-star kitchen on premises, and the smaller-than-Aman-or-Cipriani inventory.

Best Occasion Fit

Honeymoon

For a Venetian honeymoon designed around the two-Michelin-star dinner on premises, Palazzo Venart is the cleanest answer. Grand Canal Suites for the standard booking; the Doge Suite for the milestone version. Glam at the corner table looking onto the canal is the dinner; a private water taxi from the palazzo's own dock is the way you arrive at Harry's Bar for the cicchetti.

Anniversary

A Venetian anniversary at Palazzo Venart calibrates by suite category — Junior Suite for a quiet weekend, Grand Canal Suite for a milestone, Doge Suite for a major one. The seventeen-key inventory and the courtyard garden mean the property feels meaningfully more residential than the Aman or the Gritti at comparable money.

Proposal

The proposal-on-the-Grand-Canal-terrace version of the Venice trip is what Palazzo Venart was effectively designed for — the small private terrace at sunset directly over the canal, the two-star kitchen behind, and the courtyard garden for the after-Champagne walk. The team is highly fluent in the brief; the photographer arrangement is reflexive.
