The Hotel

Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora opened in October 2008 on Motu Tehotu, a private islet across the lagoon from Bora Bora's main island, with one hundred and twenty-one overwater bungalow suites and beachfront villas. The resort layout puts every overwater suite on either the lagoon side (facing Mount Otemanu) or the ocean side (facing the open Pacific). The Mount Otemanu view is the more iconic — the conical 727-metre volcanic peak rises directly across the lagoon, perfectly framed from many of the bungalow decks, and the photograph that appears in most Bora Bora honeymoon advertising is taken from inside one of these suites.

The overwater bungalow suites range from One-Bedroom Overwater Bungalows (the entry, all 102 square metres, with glass floors and direct lagoon access) to Two-Bedroom Overwater Bungalow Suites and the Royal Overwater Bungalow. The beachfront category — sixteen one- to three-bedroom Beachfront Villas with private pools — is the family-luxury answer, set on a private beach with direct lagoon access and full butler service. All overwater suites have outdoor decks, sun loungers, and direct lagoon-stair access for snorkelling from the suite.

The Kahaia Spa is on the resort's main beach with an on-stilts treatment pavilion. The Lagoon Sanctuary — a private, semi-enclosed lagoon at the resort's centre — is one of the most distinctive features in any Bora Bora resort. The sanctuary holds blacktip reef sharks, eagle rays, parrotfish, and tropical reef species in a fully natural environment, and guests snorkel directly from the beach into clear waters that the resort's marine biologist supervises. The kids' programme includes biology-led snorkel sessions in the sanctuary.

Dining is across three restaurants. Arii Moana is the over-water French-Polynesian fine-dining restaurant. Sunset Bar & Restaurant is the beachfront seafood and cocktail spot. Tere Nui is the all-day buffet, which sounds prosaic but operates at a level that justifies the rate. The wine programme is strong; the rum programme is among the better collections in French Polynesia. Service is the consistent global Four Seasons standard delivered by a heavily Tahitian team, and the resort's location, scale, and operational discipline make it the polished Bora Bora honeymoon for travellers who want predictable Four Seasons quality with the Mount Otemanu view.

Best Occasion Fit

Honeymoon

The Bora Bora honeymoon resort. Book a One-Bedroom Overwater Bungalow Suite on the Mount Otemanu side. Ask Four Seasons to arrange a private dinner on a sandbank, a Polynesian vow renewal at sunset, and a Lagoon Sanctuary snorkel session with the marine biologist. The honeymoon at Four Seasons Bora Bora is the polished version of the Bora Bora dream — the architecture, the lagoon, the Otemanu view, and Four Seasons' consistency, all in one address.

Anniversary

For milestone anniversaries the Two-Bedroom Beachfront Villa with private pool or the Royal Overwater Bungalow are the right scale. Four Seasons handles vow renewals, private chef dinners on the deck, and helicopter transfers from Tahiti's main airport that themselves become part of the experience. The resort's anniversary-stay reputation is built on twenty years of Four Seasons consistency — guests come back for tenth, twentieth, twenty-fifth anniversaries, and the staff remember them.

Family Holiday

The Beachfront Villas (one to three bedrooms) with private pools and direct beach access are the family-luxury answer. The Lagoon Sanctuary makes Bora Bora's most family-friendly snorkel programme — children swim with reef sharks under marine-biologist supervision and learn the species. The kids' club programme is biology-led rather than babysitting. The polished family-luxury Bora Bora resort.
