The Hotel

Le Bora Bora — formerly Le Méridien Bora Bora, rebranded under Pearl Resorts in 2020 — sits on Motu Tevairoa, a private islet on the western edge of Bora Bora's lagoon, with eighty villas split between overwater and beachfront categories. Pearl Resorts is the largest Polynesian-owned hotel group in French Polynesia, and the difference shows in the staffing, the cultural programming, and the integration with local Polynesian craftspeople and farmers. The resort feels less like an international five-star than like a Polynesian luxury operator's flagship — which is what it is.

The eighty villas are split between Overwater Villas (the most-booked, with glass-floor lounge sections), Pool Beach Villas with private plunge pools, and Beach Bungalow Suites. The Premium Overwater Villa — at the resort's farthest end — has the most photographed deck on the property, with direct view of Mount Otemanu and a private deck pool. The interiors are warm timber, woven Polynesian materials, and lower-key than the international five-stars; the architectural language is closer to Tahitian heritage than to global luxury template.

The Sea Turtle Sanctuary — a semi-enclosed lagoon area within the resort — is one of the property's signature features. The sanctuary supports turtle rehabilitation in collaboration with French Polynesia's Te Mana o Te Moana marine conservation NGO, and guests can participate in feeding, monitoring, and release of rehabilitated turtles. This kind of conservation programming is genuine rather than ornamental and is the kind of thing the Polynesian-owned operator does that international brands don't.

Dining is across three restaurants. Te Ava is the headline French-Polynesian fine-dining over water. Miki Miki is the all-day Mediterranean. The Pool Bar serves casual lunches and cocktails. The wine programme is solid, the rum programme is comprehensive. The cultural programming — twice-weekly Polynesian dance, ukulele lessons, traditional Polynesian craft workshops — is the most authentic on the lagoon. Le Bora Bora is the resort to book if the Polynesian-owned status matters and the rate ceiling is somewhat lower than the Four Seasons or St. Regis. The luxury is real; the cultural integration is deeper.

Best Occasion Fit

Honeymoon

The Bora Bora honeymoon for couples who want the cultural integration as part of the experience. Book a Premium Overwater Villa with the Otemanu view; participate in the Polynesian wedding-blessing ceremony at the on-site temple pavilion; have dinner at Te Ava on the third night. The honeymoon at Le Bora Bora is the Polynesian-luxury version of the Bora Bora dream — and at a rate that books a longer stay than the international flags.

Anniversary

For anniversaries Le Bora Bora handles vow renewals with traditional Polynesian priests, private dinners on Motu Tevairoa beach, and Sea Turtle Sanctuary release ceremonies — the kind of authentically Polynesian milestone setting that the international five-stars cannot quite reproduce.

Family Holiday

The family Bora Bora resort for travellers who want the lower rate ceiling and the cultural depth. The Pool Beach Villas with private plunge pools work for families. The Sea Turtle Sanctuary is the most engaging on-property activity for children of any age. The kids' club is small but well-run and integrates Polynesian cultural activities into the daily programming.
